Deferred taxation
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date, where transactions or events have resulted in an obligation to pay more tax in the future or a right to pay less tax in the future. A deferred tax asset is recognised only when it is regarded as more likely than not that there will be suitable future taxable profits against which the deferred tax asset can be recovered. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date and is not discounted. Deferred tax is recognised on the revaluation of investment properties, even when there is no intention to sell the property. The associated deferred tax is calculated based on the difference between the carrying amount of the property and its tax base, using the applicable tax rate. The deferred tax impact is recognised in the profit and loss account, in line with the treatment of the underlying fair value movement.
Prior Period Adjustment
During the financial year, the directors identified that a property had been incorrectly classified within Tangible Fixed Assets (Land and Buildings) in prior periods, despite meeting the definition of an Investment Property under FRS 102 Section 16. To correct this error, a prior period adjustment has been made to retrospectively reclassify the asset and restate the comparative figures.
