During the financial year, Stiwdio Dyfi C.I.C. operated primarily through Sploj Machynlleth, a community-centred arts and culture space in Machynlleth. The company’s activities focused on creating an accessible, welcoming and socially beneficial space for local people to take part in arts, culture, creative learning and community activity. The company delivered workshops, events, consultation activity and grant-funded projects, with support including funding from the National Lottery, PAVO and the Laura Ashley Foundation Fund. These activities were designed to support community participation, creativity, skills development, local collaboration and access to cultural activity in the Dyfi area. The company’s work benefited the community by: 1. providing an inclusive community arts and culture space in Machynlleth 2. delivering workshops and events that enabled local people to learn new skills, take part in creative activity and connect with others 3. supporting community consultation and engagement activity 4. using grant funding to improve access to arts, culture and community-focused opportunities 5. maintaining and improving the physical space so that it could continue to serve local people and grassroots activity The company also operated a bar within the space. Any profit generated by the bar was reinvested into the community interest objectives of the company, including improving the space and helping to meet running costs such as bills and utilities, in order to sustain the venue for ongoing community use. Overall, the company’s activities during the year helped strengthen local cultural provision, support community participation and provide a practical base for creative and socially beneficial activity in Machynlleth.
The company’s stakeholders include members of the local community, workshop participants, event attendees, artists, facilitators, project partners, funders, volunteers, collaborators and others using or supporting Sploj Machynlleth. The company consulted with stakeholders on an ongoing and informal basis through direct conversations, feedback during and after events and workshops, discussions with artists and facilitators, engagement with project partners and funders, and regular interaction with people using the space. Feedback from stakeholders informed the company’s activities and helped shape the development of the space, programming and community offer. In response to feedback, the company continued to prioritise community-centred arts and cultural activity, the improvement and maintenance of the venue, and the delivery of workshops, events and funded activity that responded to local need and interest.
