Balance sheet statements

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. Grants receivable are allocated against specific expenditure as and when the expenditure is incurred. Donations and other income are accounted for as and when received.

    Other accounting policies

    Taxation Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax, Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.

Company activities and impact

In this financial year, Bentswood Hub C.I.C has delivered: - A daily community larder offering fair access to all, reducing food insecurity, food poverty and landfill waste within Haywards Heath and the neighbouring towns and villages. - A weekly non-faith-based youth groups, providing a safe space for young people to make social connections with other young people and to learn how to fully engage in their community via opportunities that may not have otherwise been available to them due to socio-economic disadvantage. - A weekly Just for Girls emotional wellbeing group providing a safe space for girls with emotional difficulties to explore mindfulness art as a medium for wellbeing and self-regulation, helping them to re-engage with family, education and community life. - A weekly Man2Men group which provide a space for men to seek peer support and reduce male social isolation, enabling men to engage better in family and community life. - A weekly knit and natter session providing a safe space for older ladies to connect socially with others reducing social isolation. - A community cafe 6 days a week providing training and work experience opportunities for young people whilst also providing a safe community space for people to connect, reducing social isolation. Bentswood Hub delivered a preloved uniform event, a preloved toy event, and a Christmas party aimed at reducing the financial burden of school uniform and Christmas, and reducing landfill. Bentswood Hub delivered two community fun days aimed at supporting community cohesion. Bentswood Hub has also provided support and signposting to help those affected by socio-economic disadvantage to improve their own outcomes.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are our community, other service delivery organisation working within our community, local businesses, the 3 tier council and other funders that fund our work. We have consulted with our stakeholders via email, social media, meetings, forums and through our services. We feed back to our stakeholders via email, social media, meetings, forums, reports and providing talks. In this financial year we have received grant funding from; Haywards Heath Town Council, Mid Sussex District Council, West Sussex County Council, Co-op, Care HH and NL Community Fund. We consider all of these to be stakeholders, we have also received donations from the community and local businesses and organisation who we consider to be stakeholders as well, our service users are also our stakeholders. Through the feedback we have received from our stakeholders we have extended our services by increasing our training and work experience offering for young people, we have also extended our Just for Girls pilot to a rolling programme.
