Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 31 December 2025 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

During the period, the directors provided funding to the company to support its initial set-up costs and early operating costs while the organisation developed its activities and income streams. At the balance sheet date, the amount owed to directors was **£752.85**. The balance is unsecured, interest-free and repayable on demand, subject to the company having sufficient available funds. No interest was charged on the directors’ loan during the period.

Company activities and impact

The Unofficial Guides CIC helps people understand, apply for and progress in Civil Service and wider public sector careers. It exists to make public sector career advice clearer, fairer and easier to access. During the period from December 2024 to December 2025, The Unofficial Guides’ activities benefited the community in the following ways: * free guides and resources helped people better understand Civil Service applications and progression. These resources explained the process in plain English and were downloaded more than 35,000 times * practical sessions helped people learn how to approach Civil Service applications, interviews and career progression with more confidence. These had more than 2,500 attendees. * a large online session with Apolitical reached a wider public service audience. The session attracted around 3,000 registrations and around 1,000 attendees * the newsletter shared free advice, events, resources and opportunities with people interested in public service careers. This resulted in an audience of around 4,500 people * partnerships with universities and social mobility-focused organisations helped reach people who may not otherwise have had access to this kind of advice. These included Durham University, Anglia Ruskin University, Zero Gravity and Patchwork. * LinkedIn content gave people regular free advice on public sector careers, applications and progression. The Unofficial Guides built a following of more than 2,000 people. * Nathan White was invited to speak at the Civil Service Social Mobility Conference in April 2025 because of his work on The Unofficial Guides. This helped share the organisation’s approach to access, social mobility and progression with a wider audience * people from different backgrounds were supported to understand a recruitment process that can otherwise feel confusing or hard to access, especially for those without informal networks or insider knowledge Overall, The Unofficial Guides helped make Civil Service and public sector careers easier to understand. Its work helped people feel more confident, better informed and more able to take the next step in their public service careers.
