We held two "Come and Sing" events in Dunblane and Bridge Of Weir, 115 people attended providing the opportunity for people to learn new music and sing together in the context of a church service. There was no cost to any participant, although donations were received. New repertoire was learned which could be taken back to home churches and shared with a wider group. Two Young Voices events were held in Edinburgh, introducing 40 participants to singing in a choir. Music was learned in the first part of the afternoon, then sung at the Robin Chapel for the service; all the young people had the experience of learning music quickly, with opportunities for solos in the context of a service. There was no charge to participants, and their parents/families were encouraged to attend the service. The Summer School was held in Dunblane over four days in July 2025. Activities included the music for each of 5 services, vocal workshops from a singing coach - individually and in groups. An additional three workshops were provided - Recruiting A Junior Choir, Confident Hymn Selection and an Organ workshop. All designed to provide guidance and ideas for participants to further church music in their local context. Participants attended from throughout the UK and from the USA. The Summer School is one of the few events that incurs a charge. Participants can attend for the full 4 days or for a single day. Four organ recitals were held throughout Scotland in conjunction with Church Music Scotland, providing the opportunity for more people to enjoy the music of a pipe organ, and to be inspired to advocate retaention of pipe organs in churches. A study day on Canticles was held by staff of the University Of St Andrews in conjunction with Church Music Scotland.
Meetings were held with both the Edinburgh and the Glasgow Societies Of Organists to discuss the aspirations of Church Music Scotland and to establish mutual areas of interest. Post event feedback was invited from Summer School participants, a return rate of 52% was achieved. The comments were positive about the musical experience and some helpful suggestions were made for future events. As a result some changes are being made to elements of the programme for 2026, including reducing the number of workshops and increasing the time for the preparation of music for the services. The Young Choristers events in Edinburgh provide an opportunity for parents and participants to talk to attending Directors. The choristers enjoy singing the music learned, followed by a "performance" leading the music in a service. Some of the singers participated in both events. The Christingle service was very popular with the singers and those attending, and we were immediately asked to run the event again for Christmas 2026.
