The company provides a Community Radio service for the benefit of those within the Community of Truro. This includes those who live, work, study or receive medical assessment of treatment within the area as well as organisations who provide services relevant to those within the community. The radio service has benefited the community in the following ways: Operating a Sound Broadcasting Service Through the year the station has continued to provide entertainment, information, and advice to all in the community on a range of health, wellbeing and lifestyle topics. During the year CHBN’s team of volunteers have produced around 73 hours of original programming each week which included a range of music and speech-based programmes. A key part of the station’s output is to provide information, advice, and support to listeners with a particular focus around health, wellbeing and lifestyle topics, something which continued to remain important through the year. The team broadcast specific help and support with this in addition to general community information obtained from a range of sources in the local community. CHBN is a very accessible means of communicating that information, listeners do not require an internet connection or any kind of technical knowledge – a simple FM radio will suffice, so is the ideal means to help make sure as many people as possible can get key messages and support they need. In addition to providing information and support, a key aim of the station is to entertain. A number of new weekly programmes were added to the schedule during 2025 targeted at specific areas of the community who were previously underserved with content elsewhere on the schedule together with additional music-based programmes covering specific genres. Providing Volunteering Opportunities During 2025 there continued to be a desire to increase the number of volunteers with the station both on-air and behind the scenes. Volunteer opportunities at CHBN are promoted on air and via the stations website and the website continues to be the primary source of enquiries. During the year the station has been working to streamline the application and onboarding process to ensure that new volunteers can be contributing to the station as soon as possible, whilst making sure that all the relevant recruitment compliance aspects are achieved. Having additional volunteers at the station has significantly increased the amount of programmes and speech content the station provides each week whilst also delivering benefit to the volunteers themselves, giving them transferable technical experience on broadcast equipment and software as well as providing other valuable skills such as teamwork and communication. CHBN continues to promote other volunteering opportunities across the community through announcements and interviews on the station whilst continuing to promote the importance and benefits of volunteering to the organisation being helped and the volunteers themselves. Allowing Local Organisations to Promote their Services During 2025 the station has worked tirelessly to help local organisations promote their services and how to access them. This has been done through many of the programmes in the schedule. Over the course of the year over 298 information pieces and organisations have been featured on the station and over 1341 events have been promoted on-air and via the website. Some organisations are featured on an ad-hoc basis as and when they have something specific they wish to promote. Others have a regular slot on the station.
The company’s main stakeholders are individuals within the community who listen to the radio station, the volunteers that are involved in running the radio stations and the organisations within the community that utilise the radio station to promote the work of themselves, the services they provide or events that are forthcoming (these organisations may have an involvement with the station on a one-off or regular basis). Listeners The station actively encourages feedback from listeners through regular on-air promotions, the stations’ website and social media. Feedback can be supplied verbally by phone, by text, email, social media, using a dedicated feedback form on the website or by post. All feedback is reviewed by management. The station has a complaints procedure in place, which is published on the station’s website. Additionally, as a means of gathering quick feedback, a 1 minute listener survey is available on the website and promoted on-air and via social media Engagement with this survey has increased during 2025 and feedback received has helped shape changes that the station has made to its music and programmes. The results of the survey will continue to be reviewed by management to ensure the best possible service is being provided and that the station is a service for the community, by the community. Through this year most other feedback has been gathered face-to-face with participating organisations which has helped shape programme content and placement and also highlighted opportunities for including new sectors of the community in programming. Volunteers Radio volunteers are regularly updated with station developments via an email mailing list and there are periodic opportunities for the team to meet up to discuss ideas and make suggestions during the year. With new volunteers, the team talks to each of them to understand how they would like to support the station and for those who want to present a programme, what the makeup of that programme will be. There has been a focus over the last year around encouraging presenters to include a good element of community related speech content in programmes so the team has been working with both new and existing volunteers to achieve this and get their ideas on what content they feel is relevant and they would like to include. At any time during the year volunteers are encouraged to approach the management with suggestions or feedback each volunteer is an asset to the organisation. Many volunteers on the current team have connections through their paid work across the community and it has been extremely beneficial that these have been used to further engage the station in its community and increase the network of organisation the service connects with. Participating Organisations During the year the station continued to work with community organisations to help produce its programmes and worked with them to discuss their involvement. As a result some local organisations are now working closer with the station, contributing more regular content or in some cases hosting their own programmes. The station has also continued to connect with a large number of new organisations and has discussed with each of them how they feel CHBN may be able to promote their work, their services and how to access it. The radio station team then worked with them to provide whatever means of promotion was most suitable, such as a one off interview, an infomercial/promotion or regular contributions to programmes. There are plans in place to attend more events during 2026 which will allow the station to make connections with even more organisations.
