Year Ending: 30 September 2025

Company activities and impact

The Viking Boat Co. CIC is a not-for-profit community enterprise situated in the heart of Darlington. Our purpose is to help ex-military personnel develop mental resilience and coping strategies to counter the effects of PTSD, anxiety, stress, loneliness, and isolation to help them lead active and fulfilling lives in their community. We offer reintegration into a society from which many feel excluded and abandoned and develop active and fulfilling lives. We operate in a familiar, inclusive, non-judgemental, and supportive environment.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are predominantly ex-military service personnel who live in Darlington and its surrounding areas. Our Directors are local to our business and all have military experience. All stakeholders are required to complete a “Veteran Support Form” and attend a confidential personal interview. This allows us to determine their level of mobility and their current state of physical mental health. It also alerts us to any pre-existing health conditions to allow us to quickly signpost them for further assistance, including emergency assistance. We have full contact and next of kin details on file. We engage the individual in a variety of activities within our Woodshop to determine which activities are most suited to them as well as taking their preferences into account. Every task in the workshop allows all users, irrespective of mobility to fully participate using modified equipment where appropriate. We monitor all individuals constantly and can modify working practices as required. We encourage our participants provide feedback at the end of each working session.
