The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30th September 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

The Directors present their report for the year ended 30 September 2025.

The Children’s Identity and Citizenship European Association is a Company Limited by Guarantee registered under the Companies Act 1985 at Companies House on 22 June 2007. The company is also a registered charity registered on 20 July 2007 under registration number 1120176.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and Aims

1. To advance the education of the public, in particular but not exclusively those who work with children and young people in education and training in citizenship in a European and World context.

2. To promote research in citizenship education and identities in a European and World context and to disseminate the useful results of such research for public benefit.

Principle Activities

In the year October 1st 2024 to September 30th 2025 we scheduled:

1. Eleven (11) Executive Committee on-line and in-person meetings: October 31st; November 15th ; January 22nd ; February 26th ; March 20th ; April 9th, May 27th, 29th ; June 5th, 11th , September 19th;

2. Completed the collaboration of the appointed six CiCea Executive Committee members and three CiCea members to the Steering Committee of the Charles University (Prague, CZ) project: Jean Monet Network Citizenship Education in the Context of European Values - The Educational Aspect CitEdEV and Working Group Leaders beyond the conclusion of the project in Spring of 2024 through to the early Autumn of 2024;

3. continued exploring and identifying viable resource streams and Resource Projects during which time we worked on a COST proposal entitled CIVIC JOURNEYS with the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP). The proposal will integrate a total of 38 proposers from 19 countires, and over 20 CiCea Institutional Members. The project profile is diverse, comprising colleagues from various fields, including Educational Sciences, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Media & Communications, among others. Additionally, we successfully engaged individuals beyond academia, with co-proposers from international organisations, governmental organisations, and agencies. Notably, our team comprises 12 Young Researchers and Innovators, which corresponds to almost one-third of the proposers. Meetings were held online in October, November, December of 2024, and January, February, March, April, May, June, August and September 2025. The completed proposal will be submitted in Autumn of 2025 with results to be announced in May 2026;

4. work with Istanbul University to organize the 26th Annual CiCea International Conference to be held from Thursday June 12th to Saturday 14th of June 2025. It will be a hybrid (online and onsite at Istanbul University) Conference entitled: "Education and Communication: Being & Becoming Citizens in An Interconnected World";

5. continued cooperation on the Citizenship Teaching & Learning (Journal) with Intellect Publisher, (CiCea Members sit on the Editorial Board as well as on the Editorial Committee);

6. continued promoting the availability and use of the Association Research Centres by our members as a principal benefit of membership;

7. updating and maintaining the Association website for our members and the public;

8. enhancing and expanding the Association's social media presence (Facebook, Xtwitter, Instagram & our YouTube channel: @CiCeaVideo);

9. a call for webinar applications sent out in October 2024, applications reviewed and chosen; applicant's contacted and thereafter, three webinar's and one invitation to members for an online lecture were scheduled during the reporting period:

a) Refraiming Reality: The Art and Science of Film Literacy (November 19th, 2024), Speaker: Dr. Wendy Smidt, Cape Penninusla University of Technology, South Africa;

b) Material culture between asesthetic educatin and historical thought (December 11th, 2024), Dr. Sandra Chistolini, University of Roma 3, Italy;

c) Teaching for hope in a world in crisis: Moving from the theortetical to the practical (January 21st, 2025), Speakers: Dr. Keith Barton, Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana, USA and Dr. Li-Ching Ho, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Wisconsin USA;

d) invited CiCea members to attend Professor James Banks (Distinguished Visiting Professor at The Education University of Hong Kong) online lecture on 15 October 2024. His lecture was "Global Migration, Failed Citizenship and the Quest for Equity";

10. initiated the search for and determination process for the 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award winner who was announced at the Annual General Assembly meeting held on Saturday May 31st, 2025. The 2024 awardee was Coordinating Professor at the Polytechnic of Coimbra and Director of the Centre for the Study and Advancement of Pedagogy in Higher Education (CINEP), Dr. Susana Maria de Almeida Gonçalves [PhD).

Dr. Susana Gonçalves, a founding member of CiCea, holds a PhD in Psychology. She is a Professor at the Polytechnic of Coimbra/ Department of Education. Dr. Gonçalves is a researcher at INED (Centre for research and Innovation in Education) and at NIEFI, the Research Unit for Education, Training and Intervention (Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra) and she teaches Psychology and Intercultural Education and a range of topics in the field of cultural studies. She is a member of Children's Identity and Citizenship in Europe Association, where she served as Secretary General from September 2007 to September 2019. She was Director of the Centre for the Study and Advancement of Pedagogy in Higher Education (CINEP) from 2011 until 2021. Her main research interests are higher education, multimedia pedagogical resources, citizenship, and art in education. She has authored or edited over 75 publications. Some of her edited books are Digital Teaching, Learning and Assessment (Elsevier, 2023), Inovação Pedagógica no Ensino Superior (A3Es, 2023), Pandemic, Disruption and Adjustment in Higher Education (2022, Brill), Pandemic and Remote Teaching in Higher Education (2021, CINEP), Art in Diverse Social Settings (Emerald, 2021), Art and intercultural Dialogue (Sense, 2016), The Challenges of Diversity and Intercultural Encounters (2013, Routledge) and Intercultural Policies and Education (2011, Peter Lang). She coordinates the MOOC Abordagens Atuais no Ensino Superior (Canvas) since 2020. She is also a visual artist and a photographer ~ an artista, a csonummate photrgrapher, a seeker.;

11. Twelve (12) nominations received, no books were nominated and two awards were announced. Our 2024 Best Publication Awards were granted to:

o Best Research Paper Award: - Freires, T., Thomas Dotta, L., & Pereira, F. (2024). Young People's construction of identity in the context of southern Europe: Finding leads for citizenship education. Societies, 14(1), 9.

o Best Praxis Paper Award - Kalessopoulou, D., Sidiropoulou, T., Sotiropoulou, E., & Psatha, F. (2024). Exploring social justice awareness in young children's shopping pretend play at ECEC settings and museums. European Early Childhood Education Research Journal, 32(1), 55-70.

12. During the reporting period, a call for applicants for the CiCea Research Grant call for applicants was not announced due to technical issues.

13. Elections and Appointments:

o No elections, per se, were held during the reporting period.

o Dr. Sarah Whitehouse and Dr. Damlasu Temezil's tenures as Early Career Representives ended effective September 30th, 2025 and were thanked for jer services. .

o Dr. Damlasu Temezil was nominated to the position of Ad Hoc Member of the Executive Committee as the Digital Communication Officer effective October 1st, 2025. The membership approved her appointment at the AGA on Saturday May 31st, 2025

14. Convened the hybrid Annual General Assembly meeting (both in-person and online via ZOOM) on Saturday May 31st, 2025, 10 - 9:00 a.m. (GMT+2 time);

15. The Association in connection with membership continued advancing the Association's education and research commitment in the area of our objectives, through a series of Association supported publications, meetings, and the activities of various member institutions.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Childrens Identity And Citzenship European Association ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 30th September 2025.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

1.	accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2.	the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3.	the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4.

the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 for the year ended 30th September 2025.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year ended 30th September 2025 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for

(a)	ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and

(b)

preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company.

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to charitable companies subject to the small companies regime.

1.	ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
