Notes to the Financial Statements
1. General Information
Marlin Building Services Limited is a private company, limited by shares, incorporated in England & Wales, registered number 09206837 . The registered office is 106 Frog Grove Lane, Wood Street Village, Guildford, Surrey, GU3 3HA.
2. Accounting Policies
2.1. Basis of Preparation of Financial Statements
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard 102 section 1A Small Entities "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Companies Act 2006.
2.2. Turnover
The turnover in the profit and loss account represents amounts invoiced during the year, exclusive of VAT, adjusted to take in to account turnover relating to long-term contracts and contracts for ongoing services. The turnover regarding such contracts represents the value of work carried out during the period, including estimates of amounts not invoiced, determined by reference to the stage of completion.
2.3. Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases:
Plant & Machinery 25% on cost
Motor Vehicles 25% on cost
2.4. Leasing and Hire Purchase Contracts
Assets obtained under finance leases are capitalised as tangible fixed assets. Assets acquired under finance leases are depreciated over the shorter of the lease term and their useful lives. Assets acquired under hire purchase contracts are depreciated over their useful lives. Finance leases are those where substantially all of the benefits and risks of ownership are assumed by the company. Obligations under such agreements are included in the creditors net of the finance charge allocated to future periods. The finance element of the rental payment is charged to the income statement so as to produce a constant periodic rate of charge on the net obligation outstanding in each period.
Rentals applicable to operating leases where substantially all of the benefits and risks of ownership remain with the lessor are charged to the income statement as incurred.
2.5. Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Statement of Income and Retained Earnings, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
2.6. Factoring facility
The company uses a factoring facility with recourse for non-payment by the debtors. As the company has substantially retained the risks and rewards of ownership of the debtors they are recognised as an asset until they are collected or written off as bad debts. The secured liability due to the factoring company is shown within creditors.
3. Average Number of Employees
Average number of employees during the year was: 29 (2024: 29)
