This year, the company continued its three-year collaboration with residents of Somers Town on air pollution - a pressing local issue. The neighbourhood is surrounded by heavily congested roads including Euston Road, despite low levels of car ownership locally, creating a clear example of environmentally influenced health inequality. We worked with artist David Rickard and the wider Somers Town community, including organisations such Think and Do, Somers Town People's Museum, and Somers Town Neighbourhood Forum, to co-design the proposed installation, entitled Halfway to the Sun. Salvaging over 300 used aluminium wheel rims, the work interlocks into a large spherical structure with living plants growing within it, its porous form enabling natural airflow and filtration.
We worked with Camden Council's Air Quality team, who advised on the potential positive impact of the installation. Engineering partner AKT II provided structural design advice and produced a sustainability report. We held a co-design workshop with Somers Town residents, supported by Think and Do. The workshop focused the plant species to be included in the installation, with particular attention to plants of cultural significance for the local Bangladeshi community, who make up roughly 20% of the local population.
One of the company's directors received a total remuneration of £344 for their work in this financial year.
