The core purpose of Library of Things Saltburn CIC (LoTS) is to promote and organise community activities around the themes of community, wellbeing and environment in Saltburn and the surrounding area. From 01.11.24 to 31.20.25 our main activity has been to run a members’ scheme which allows tools, equipment, household items and leisure items to be borrowed for a small fee. We have also run several workshops and a community wellbeing festival. Lending items has allowed many community members to accomplish DIY and leisure tasks without the expense of buying a specific tool / item. We have prioritised people being able to afford to borrow over making extra income and have given many people free membership if they were unable to pay. There is also a benefit to the environment as less items need to be manufactured, saving resources and energy, if people are sharing and also nearly all of our items are donated or bought second hand and so saved from going to landfill. Our workshop themes were chosen by community consultation: 16.11.24 – visible mending 14.12.24 – festive jumper upcycling 15.03.25 – reusable period product making and giveaway 03.05.25 – seed and seedling swap 07.06.25 –bunting making with recycled fabric for pride At the request of the community we also organised a wellbeing and music a festival. Move with Nature Festival on 17.08.25. This free to enter event had 20+ stalls of sustainable goods and local organisations, 10 workshops, program of music and an auction to raise money for LoTS. Around 500 people attended the festival. Including the festival organisation 30+ volunteers were involved in the running of the organisation in this calendar year. On 19.11.25 Abdul Rauf was appointed a director. We look forward to working with him. October 2025 saw directors Maggie Smith and Ruth Greenwood retiring from their roles. LoTS is very grateful for all their time, expertise and energy over the last few years.
We consult with stakeholders informally at all our workshops and at the weekly planning meetings for the Move with Nature festival. To find out what other workshops and services the community needs. We consulted festival goers on what workshops they would like to see in the coming year by allowing them to add their wish on a scale of the ‘wish fish’ art installation. We also held open to all ‘community builders’ consultation meetings on: 27.01.25, and 14.04.25 and 05.09.25 and an open Move with nature festival debrief meeting on 28.08.25
Ruth Greenwood received payment for running workshops and design services and Rowan McLaughlin received payments for running workshops. Full details are provided in accounts of renumeration.
