BLACK WOMEN EMPOWERMENT NETWORK, also known as BWEN Wales, carried out a range of activities aimed at supporting Black women, entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives, and community members across Wales. The company’s activities benefited the community by creating opportunities for learning, networking, enterprise development, digital inclusion, funding awareness, and community empowerment. The company’s activities benefited the community in the following ways: - Biz Talks Over Coffee provided a welcoming and informal space for Black women entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners, professionals, and community members to connect, share experiences, discuss business and career challenges, and build supportive relationships. This helped reduce isolation, improve confidence, and encourage collaboration among women who may otherwise have limited access to culturally relevant business and professional networks. - Digital training delivered in collaboration with Big Learning Company supported participants to improve their digital knowledge, confidence, and practical skills. This helped community members better understand how to use digital tools for communication, employability, business growth, visibility, and everyday productivity. - The funding workshop delivered in collaboration with Swansea Council helped participants understand funding opportunities, eligibility requirements, and how to approach applications more confidently. This was particularly beneficial for entrepreneurs, community groups, and individuals seeking to access financial support for projects, businesses, or community initiatives. - The company promoted the visibility and representation of Black women in Wales by creating platforms for women to share their stories, businesses, skills, and achievements. This contributed to positive representation and helped challenge underrepresentation within enterprise, professional, and community spaces. - BWEN Wales supported enterprise and professional development by creating opportunities for women to learn, ask questions, exchange knowledge, and access information that could support their business ideas, careers, and community projects. - The company encouraged community cohesion by building connections between Black women, local organisations, public bodies, business support providers, and the wider Welsh community. These activities helped improve access to information, networks, and opportunities. - Through its events, partnerships, and community engagement, the company created safe, inclusive, and culturally aware spaces where Black women could feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. Overall, during the financial year, BWEN Wales benefited the community by empowering Black women, strengthening networks, improving access to digital and funding knowledge, supporting enterprise development, and promoting inclusion, representation, and community participation across Swansea and Wales.
During the financial year 14 October 2024 to 31 October 2025, the company consulted with stakeholders as part of its community engagement and programme delivery. The company’s stakeholders include Black women entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives, community members, families, volunteers, local partners, training providers, public bodies, and organisations that support enterprise, inclusion, skills development, and community wellbeing. Stakeholders were consulted through informal discussions, networking sessions, community conversations, feedback received during and after events, social media engagement, partnership meetings, and direct conversations with participants and collaborators. Activities such as Biz Talks Over Coffee, the digital training delivered in collaboration with Big Learning Company, the funding workshop delivered in collaboration with Swansea Council, and the Annual Christmas Drive provided opportunities for the company to listen to the needs, challenges, ideas, and priorities of the community. Feedback from stakeholders showed a need for more culturally aware spaces where Black women could access support, build confidence, learn new skills, discuss business and career development, and connect with relevant opportunities. Stakeholders also highlighted the importance of practical support around digital skills, funding awareness, visibility, representation, and community wellbeing. In response to this feedback, the company continued to develop activities that focused on enterprise support, skills development, networking, funding information, community visibility, and practical support for individuals and families. The company also strengthened its collaboration with local organisations and partners in order to improve access to information, training, and opportunities for the community. The consultation process helped the company to ensure that its activities remained relevant to the needs of its community and aligned with its purpose of empowering Black women, promoting inclusion, and supporting community development across Wales.
