  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer returns, rebates and other similar allowances.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases:

    Other accounting policies

Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. Turnover is only recognised to the extent of recoverable expenses when the outcome of a contract cannot be estimated reliably.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

APPLE FM C.I.C.

Company Number: 07712546 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 July 2025

Company activities and impact

We are a Local OfCom registered Community Radio Station that provides a truly local radio service to the Taunton area within Somerset. We are based within Musgrove Park Hospital and we also act as the Hospital Radio Station, as well as broadcasting to the general community on the FM Frequency, and online through our website and various platforms. We provide, using purely Volunteers, a 7 day a week service broadcasting 24 hours a day with live shows from 7am till midnight. We broadcast many different genres of music with some very specific show types (Like Country Music, 60/70’s, Drivetime, Breakfast, etc.) and provide local news services to the Taunton area. Our Social Media massively followed and commented on, with posts going viral and having reactions and comments in the thousands and even 100,000+ on occasion. We truly believe we are a Radio Station for the local people, BY the local people. We offer training to anyone that meets the basic requirements and ongoing assessments during the different state of training, giving a voice to a diverse spectrum of the Borough residents. We try to get our Outside Broadcast team out to as many events out in the Community as we can to enable people to see us and also to bring the events out and about to those that may not be able to get to them because of disability, rural isolation or infirmity. We believe we offer a first rate alternative to the normal mainstream that is specifically for our community and to have listeners contact us and to tell us that we are better than the BBC, as Volunteers, really does encourage us to push on further with our mission to continuously represent our fabulous County Town residents

Consultation with stakeholders

We ask our listeners for engagement and input into which community organisations and public offices they would like to hear an in-depth Spotlight interview being held with for our flagship "community matters" show. This show is specifically there to highlight the best of what makes Taunton, Taunton, but he's also there to highlight and hopefully help turn around negative issues affecting the people of the town and beyond. It's also a great show to be able to promote what's happening in and around Taunton, and to praise good citizens and good companies that are going out of their way to help our listeners, the fabulous people of Taunton. We also have a specialist director whose role it is purely to be the representative of the volunteers that make the radio station what it is. She is in place to serve the interests of the volunteers and to take a considered and overall stands on behalf of the volunteers, directly engaging with the volunteers that not only give their time for free to create arrow but but also by the very fact that they are part of what makes us who we are. They're input into our organisation is paramount and we listen very closely to what the experience and consideration of our volunteers is. Some of them have been with us for over 30 years and have built up a huge amount of important knowledge.
