In the last year Glenside Farm Comber C.I.C has benefited the community by providing access to the rural environment and opportunities to engage in farming activities, to gain new skills and to participate in outdoor experiences and activities which promote health and wellbeing and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle. Groups that have benefitted are: We have had groups visit from the refugee and asylum seeking communities for health & wellbeing and to enjoy learning about farming in NI by having a tour of the farm with the farmer and an opportunity to ask questions to compare farming in NI with farming in other parts of the world. We have had individuals volunteering at the farm to experience the outdoor as part of improving their health & wellbeing. We have a sensory garden and three sessions a week for volunteering. We take part in Open Farm weekend, where the space is open for the public to learn about farming and engage in farming activities We have connected with groups in the local area who have visited during lambing. We have shared our vision at events to promote the CIC. We have held workshops connected to seasonal activities, such as wreath making workshop which has allowed people to be on the farm and experience learning in a rural environment. We have had participants for a Farm to Fleece project exploring the journey of making wool using the fleece from a sheep on the farm, as part of a Heritage project.
Stakeholders include Board members, participants, individuals, families and groups that visit. The board meets regularly and any agreed action is carried out by a board member. Participants can comment on their experience on their visits and where possible we have given out questionnaires to capture their experience especially in terms of health and wellbeing. Individuals, families and groups from the community have opportunity to share their experience through conversation and we have been able to collate and take on board their comments and suggestions. There is also a growing presence on social media.
Malini Colville has received a total of £3781 during the period for part time administrative and management duties. This was recorded and approved by the Board.
