Principal activities of the company

The principal activities of the company are to create, maintain or enhance outdoor community green spaces via a variety of tasks including general outdoor maintenance of trees/shrubs/brambles/weeds, litter picking, planting etc. During 2025, Transformers North has continued enhancing outdoor community spaces as part of our Design, Create & Transform project funded by Kirklees Council, and our Transform Your World projects funded by Kirklees Council and supported by local ward Councillors (adding Dewsbury East in 2025). This includes working with local voluntary groups, providing support to achieve greater productivity in their local areas/green spaces. We have also been developing a community garden with the aim of engaging local people to take ownership as the project develops.

Company activities and impact

Transformers North is a social enterprise aimed at 'vulnerable' people focusing on building confidence, self-esteem, training, knowledge & skills. The project undertakes & carries out outdoor environmental improvements & helps other community groups, organisations & individuals enhance their local areas. The social enterprise was incorporated in December 2016.In 2025, we continued to deliver projects funded by Kirklees Council working in designated wards & with local volunteer groups. We continued work on our community garden and also secured funds to run workshops/sessions in Heckmondwike & Batley. These projects and our other activities have benefited the community in the following ways: local volunteers & residents (particularly those with learning difficulties, poor mental health or unemployed) have transformed community spaces & improved accessibility/safety of footpaths for local residents, built up knowledge and skills, made friends, improved confidence and self-esteem and helped people feel a part of a community project. Local school children & families have gained knowledge and understanding about all aspects of food growing.
