2. Exceptional Item – Consumer Bad Debt Write-Off During the year the directors completed a comprehensive review of aged consumer receivables. Following assessment of customer records, collection history, legal recoverability and available supporting documentation, balances totalling £1,472,643 were determined to be irrecoverable. Due to the size and non-recurring nature of the adjustment, the charge has been disclosed separately as an exceptional item. The write-off principally relates to historic consumer balances accumulated over a number of prior accounting periods. An existing doubtful debt provision of £115,658 was available against trade debtors and was utilised where appropriate. The directors consider that recognition of the impairment provides a prudent valuation of debtors and ensures that assets are not overstated.
