The company continued to campaign towards the reopening of the Amulet Theatre, as a multi-purpose community venue for the residents of Shepton Mallet and surrounding rural area. The company created a temporary event space in part of the Amulet Theatre and put on a four month season of community engagement events there. These events engaged with many sections of the community to canvas their views and to demonstrate the viability of reopening the venue. All live performance events were sold out and there was strong demand from a wide range of community groups to host their events, including U3A, adults with learning differences, educational screenings and young families. Young people were provided with skills and learning opportunities in the creative industries. A community benefit society, The Amulet Centre Limited, was created and a community share offer was opened to coincide with the events programme. Shepton Mallet Community Enterprises CIC will now be closed and all activity will transition to the new community benefit society.
A four month season of community engagement events was held to consult with residents of Shepton Mallet and the surrounding rural community; to trial events suggested by earlier consultations and to give feedback on new ideas. A series of business brunch events was held to consult with local businesses on their views. Consultation also took place with many stakeholders including local community groups, neighbouring venues, Shepton Mallet Town Council, Somerset Council, Theatres Trust, Co-operatives UK and potential funders. The company provided the data collected to the new community benefit society, to be incorporated into their business plans.
