During this reporting period, Therapy Through Horses CIC has continued to develop its plans to provide equine-assisted activities and therapeutic opportunities that will benefit individuals, families, and the wider community. A significant milestone has been achieved with the acquisition of 14 acres of land, enabling the organisation to establish a permanent base from which to operate. This follows a number of setbacks and delays in securing suitable facilities. The new site provides the space and stability needed to begin developing services and move the company into its operational phase. The company has also welcomed a new youth volunteer, supporting our commitment to providing volunteering opportunities for young people and encouraging skills development, confidence, and community involvement. Suitable ponies have now been sourced to support the delivery of future activities, including therapeutic horse experiences, educational programmes, and community engagement events. In addition, discussions have taken place with a local farmer regarding a collaborative cross-grazing arrangement between sheep and horses. This partnership will provide mutual benefits by supporting sustainable land management practices, helping to improve pasture quality, and allowing areas of the farmer's land time to recover while maintaining productive use. Therapy Through Horses CIC remains committed to creating positive social impact through the therapeutic and educational benefits of horses, promoting wellbeing, volunteering, environmental stewardship, and stronger community connections.
Therapy Through Horses CIC has engaged in discussions with a range of stakeholders, including local residents, community members, volunteers, directors, and local farmers, to assess the potential benefits of the project for the island community. Feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive. Stakeholders recognised the potential for the CIC to provide valuable opportunities for young people, families, and individuals seeking support for their physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing through interaction with horses. The introduction of volunteering opportunities for local youth was particularly welcomed as a means of developing confidence, responsibility, and practical skills. Discussions also highlighted the potential economic and environmental benefits of the project. Local farming stakeholders expressed support for exploring cross-grazing arrangements between sheep and horses, which could contribute to improved land management and allow areas of grazing land time to recover. Stakeholders agreed that the project would add to the range of activities available on the island, promote community wellbeing, encourage social inclusion, and provide opportunities for education, recreation, and therapeutic engagement. Overall, consultation indicated strong community support and a shared belief that Therapy Through Horses CIC will have a positive and lasting impact on the island community.
