Magyar Cymru CIC exists to foster mutual understanding between the people of Wales and Hungary by promoting cultural exchange. During the financial year ending 31 October 2025, we provided opportunities for Welsh and Hungarian communities to connect, both in-person and online. Our activities included: organising a one-day community festival featuring Welsh and Hungarian folk dance, folk music, authentic cuisine, an artisan food & crafts market, and interactive workshops. The event attracted 200+ attendees (mostly Welsh and Hungarian families) – including dignitaries from the Welsh Government and the Embassy of Hungary; delivering a series of themed cultural workshops and social activities in Cardiff, with the help of volunteers from the Hungarian diaspora community; delivering a series of interactive sessions about Hungarian culture at Nant Celyn Primary School (Cwmbran) and Pantside Primary School (Newbridge), which later inspired a touring exhibition and workshop series set to launch in late 2026; launching a virtual school twinning programme and onboarding 6 primary schools, with an additional 4 schools on a waitlist. As in previous years, our activities encouraged social cohesion between communities, fostering cultural awareness among Welsh people and reducing social isolation for Wales’ Hungarian minority. Our work also helped promote Wales as an inclusive and welcoming nation, giving Hungarians a sense of belonging and challenging misconceptions about the Welsh language.

Magyar Cymru CIC’s stakeholders include young people and adults in Wales (and the rest of the UK) who are interested in learning about Hungarian culture, as well as individuals in Hungary and Hungarians currently living in the UK who seek to better understand Welsh culture. All our 2024-2025 events and activities were developed following feedback from the communities we serve. This included: consulting with the Honorary Consul for Hungary in Wales, the Hungarian Embassy, and the UK's Hungarian Cultural Centre to align with their priorities; verbal feedback from the Hungarian diaspora school of Newport, and other Hungarian-led community groups in South Wales, to assess their needs and preferences; in-depth interviews with Hungarians in Wales that revealed experiences of xenophobia and a growing affinity for Welsh identity, shaping our aim to foster shared cultural understanding; video interviews with community leaders, providing insights into previous efforts to develop Welsh-Hungarian connections.

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £1,836. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
