COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

RODLAB CIC

Company Number: 16541129 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 June 2026

Company activities and impact

Rodlab CIC was incorporated to provide applied theatre and associated artistic activities, co-created with and benefiting people experiencing disadvantage due to protected characteristics, economic circumstances and/or health conditions. The company is not established for private gain, and any surplus or assets must be used principally for community benefit. During the reporting period from incorporation on 25 June 2025 to 30 June 2026, Rodlab delivered participatory arts, co-learning, practitioner development and reflective practice activities in community, peer-learning and educational settings. Across the year, Rodlab recorded approximately 130 participant attendances. This figure is based on Eventbrite sign-ups and participation records, and counts total attendances rather than unique individuals, as some people attended more than one activity. Main activities included: + four regular Rodlab co-learning sessions; + two “Permission to Act” sessions through Rodlab Direct; + one specialist “Narrative Fightback” session led by Gaynor Smith; + individual professional development support for two practitioners; + two “Who Cares?” sessions with male carers, funded by Islington Giving; + presentation of the “Who Cares?” work at The Commons; + planning and consultation activity linked to Shared Power Network / Napier Hall; + development work on a Curiosity Bid with Bath Spa University academics; + a guest lecture for 25 social work students at London Metropolitan University. These activities benefited the community by creating accessible spaces for creative learning, reflection, confidence-building and peer support. The work also supported practitioners to develop participatory methods that can be used with communities experiencing disadvantage, exclusion, caring responsibilities, health pressures or social isolation.

Consultation with stakeholders

Rodlab’s stakeholders include workshop participants, co-learning group members, practitioners supported by Rodlab, project partners, carers involved in the “Who Cares?” pilot, facilitators, academic partners and students taking part in Rodlab-led teaching sessions. Stakeholders were consulted through participant surveys, informal feedback conversations, practitioner review sessions, partner discussions and facilitator debriefs. Rodlab also held six feedback sessions with practitioners it had supported and with project partners. Feedback was positive overall. Participants particularly valued the quality of facilitation, the relaxed and safe atmosphere, and the opportunity to test participatory theatre ideas in practice. One participant said: “Naresh and Paul create a relaxed, open space that felt comfortable and invited everyone’s participation.” Another participant described the facilitators as: “Thoughtful, original and generous.”
