The company runs sewing and creative classes in the London Borough of Lewisham. The primary aim of Make Mee Studio CIC is to make sewing and creativity as accessible, inclusive, and as environmentally and socially beneficial as possible. At Make Mee Studio CIC, we ran a number of projects and worked on initiatives that have benefited the community for the financial year from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025. - The CIC experienced continued success working on Sew Together. A free 18-week course for local residents who would not usually be able to afford sewing classes or who are experiencing isolation. They continued to deliver the workshops with a £20,000 National Lottery grant, over 70 participants have already taken part in the course. - The CIC continues to partner with local support agencies such as social prescribing network Community Connections as well as working with local charities who support sanctuary seekers to promote our courses to those who would benefit from them the most, The Refugee Council and Lewisham Migrant and Refugee Network. We feel this is an important part of the project providing a place for integration and community building as Lewisham is a Borough of Sanctuary. - The CIC continued to offer free or low-cost subsidised places at weekly sessions called The Sewcial. We are funding these places from our takings from other courses. At the Sewcial people can use our studio and equipment to work on their own sewing projects and socialise with other makers. Building a diverse local sewing community. - In collaboration with Lewisham Council the CIC delivered 25 free clothing repair and mending workshops for residents around the borough. The mending workshops move around Lewisham, so they are as accessible to as many people as possible. - The CIC gained a £1000 repair, reuse, recycle grant from Lewisham Council to deliver upcycling and recycling workshops with local CIC and charity Circle Collective, in their store in Lewisham Shopping Centre. - The CIC was awarded £5000 from the Youth First Legacy fund to deliver classes for young people in Lewisham. With this grant the CIC continued running upcycling workshops with Circle Collective in their store. Providing training for the young people they work with and offering workshops to members of the public. - The CIC also used the Youth First Legacy grant to provide 8 subsided workshops for charity Lewisham Young Carers. Who provide respite and school holiday activities for young carers in Lewisham. - The CIC provided 1 work experience placement for local school students. - The CIC have provided 4 regular weekly or bi-weekly volunteer placements and have a team of ad-hoc volunteers who join us to help out at our community focused sessions, like the mending drop ins and our sewcials. The volunteers gain skills in teaching, organisation and meet new people. - Where possible, the CIC sourced materials for our workshops from local and sustainable sources, purchasing end of roll and remnant fabrics and receiving donations of materials.
- The company’s stakeholders are the participants that attend our classes and courses as well as other local organisations in the charity/ support sector or our local council. - The CIC continues to use feedback and evaluation forms to monitor our impact and progress. At our mending workshops we record the number of items of clothing we have helped people divert from waste streams. As of December 2025, the number was over 370 items. We also ask people to fill in feedback forms and we use the WRAP methodology to record our environmental impact by recording the displacement rate of mending, if it stops people from buying new items. - We also have regular impact reporting meetings with Lewisham Council about our free mending workshops to ensure we are getting the best outcome for our workshops. - We also continually ask for feedback on our Sew Together project from participants.
