DBA Sports Africa CIC runs eight (8) rugby academies across Kenya and supports a lacrosse academy in Uganda. Over 350 children aged 8-18 enjoy access to a safe space where they can be kids and learn about teamwork, leadership and mental and physical health. DBA Sports Africa CIC also runs an athletes race fund, where runners can apply for entry and transport support in order to enter competitions and turn their running into a self-sustaining career. Through DBA’s academies over 140 children (34% girls) have achieved scholarships to both day and boarding schools in Kenya. Five boys have also been offered places at UK boarding schools. This year, we have our first UK school, Kingsley school in Devon, touring Kenya playing rugby against our academies. Bryanston in Somerset have expressed interest in offering scholarships to more boys from Kenya and to further UK-Kenya cooperation. We currently host between 4-5 UK gap students at our academies and we hope to expand this programme to more British students as our education programmes expand. Since March 2025, DBA Sports Africa CIC entered into a partnership with LVCT One to One, a Kenyan-based NGO specialising in health to develop a rugby centered 5-week school based programme to teach children aged 13-19 about violence prevention, equality, mental health and gender based violence. DBA has delivered this programme in 15 schools in 3 regions and over 700 children have now benefited from the programme.”Tackle It” provides a safe, inclusive platform for youth to build life skills and challenge harmful norms. Unfortunately, violence in homes and schools is common place and sometimes viewed as acceptable and normal. DBA Sports Africa has received accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Dba is now actively fundraising to deliver “Tackle It” in over 50 schools across the country. DBA Africa has administered funds to Kenyan based sports entities for the Australian High Commission and the British High Commission. We see this role as a reliable sports interlocutor expanding over the coming years.

Dba Sports Africa’s internal stakeholders are its 5 full-time employees, its 40+ part time rugby coaches, its 350+ academy children as well as the 4 local government officers we liaise with in the 4 regions where DBA Sports Africa is present. DBA Sports Africa conducted a survey amongst all the academy children to find out about what they worried about most, who they could turn to if they needed help and how they perceived violence in their lives. This survey was the basis for the creation of Tackle It. DBA Sports Africa conducts yearly reviews with its full time stall and termly reviews with its coaches for feedback. DBA Africa’s external stakeholders are its two Trustees, Barbarians Foundation, our main donor so far, as well as Wazi wazi, a Japanese donor and supporter of the Nairobi academy. Further external stakeholders include the school administrations and teachers who have permitted us entry to deliver our programmes, the Kenya rugby union who have accredited us, as well as the Ministry of Education who have scrutinised our programme Tackle It allowing it into schools in 3 regions in Kenya thus far. We currently have a clinical psychologist analysing the findings in 10 schools and progress reports have been sent to local government as well as to our donors.
