TRUSTEES' REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JANUARY 2026
The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of the Company for the year 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2026. The Annual Report serves the purposes of both a Trustees' report and a directors' report under company law. The Trustees confirm that the Annual Report and financial statements of the charitable company comply with the current statutory requirements, the requirements of the charitable company's governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2019).
Since the Company qualifies as small under section 382 of the Companies Act 2006, the Strategic Report required of medium and large companies under the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic Report and Directors' Report) Regulations 2013 has been omitted.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Significant activities
The Council continued to meet termly to administer the charity and have reintroduced physical meetings. The Trustees continue to meet separately after Council to apply segregation of duties and focus on the strategic direction of the charity. Plans are being developed to help streamline the administrative and governance processes within the Charity so the majority of members can focus on pedagogical developments.
Council membership has been expanded to include complementary skills sets and experience.
A strategic 1, 3 and 5 year plan has been devised and the Council are working to implement actions. We have sourced external expertise to help us develop our plan and set achievable actions.
Public benefit
In setting objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance
published by the Charity Commission relating to public benefit, including the guidance 'Public benefit: running a charity (PB2)'.

Let’s Think through Primary Geography
For reporting period February 2025 to January 2026
Achievements and Deliverables
∙The original project ended in January 2024 having used a sum of £1924, returning £5585
of the original budget for other Let’s Think activity. The outcomes of the project were
provided in the 23-24 report.
∙The 7 lessons have been gathered into a coherent digital resource with lesson plans;
pupil resources and the resources teachers will need for subject and pedagogical
knowledge. Short videos introducing the project and the lessons and further reading for
teachers who want to look deeper into the project and its outcomes have been produced.
∙The materials have been shared with some partnership schools, and they have been
invited to give feedback on the materials.
Challenges and planned growth opportunities
∙A proposal was made to Council, and accepted, to incorporate the materials into a wider
approach, ‘A Foundation for Thinking in the Primary Years’ based on a number of
lessons from the Foundation Subjects and using the same methodology as the
Geography Project. This proposal was superseded by a proposal to develop a general
pedagogy course for primary schools where the materials would be one of a number of
resources. Progress on this is awaited from the proposers.

Science
For reporting period February 2025 to January 2026
Achievements and Deliverables
∙Presentations at the Annual Association for Science Education conference at the University of Nottingham, January 2026. The Association for Science Education (ASE) is an active membership body with a reach of around 6,500 members. The ASE supports all those involved in science education ranging from technicians, trainee teachers, experienced pre-school to higher education educators and those involved with the continuing professional development of teachers. The science forum maintained a strong presence at this conference, aimed at science educators across all age phases, with around 5000 members. Proposals accepted by members of the science forum and presented were: ‘Bringing CASE in from the cold: How is it going?’ ; ‘ How the concept of Epistemic Inquiry can help plan a science curriculum’; ‘Asking questions about Primary Science and TIMSS ‘.
∙Further national and international presentations from members of the science forum include presenting on ‘How to get to know how your students think’ and ‘Lets Think Mathematics’ at Milan International Teachers Association. The International STEM Education Conference is a global event focused on professional development in STEM education, uniting teacher educators, policymakers, teachers, and various other stakeholders involved in the field. Science forum members presented the following sessions: ‘Why Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education is more important than ever’ and ‘Epistemic Inquiry’ .This Istanbul conference was 6th International STEM Education Conference, November 8-9, 2025 - Istanbul / Türkiye.
∙Following a successful secured publishing contract with Crown House (May 2025) for a book ‘Thinking through Science’, key goals set during the February 2025-January 2026 period have been met. These include establishing a clear timeline that will lead to a final manuscript sent to Crown House in December 2026; identifying and contacting contributing authors. This book will span beyond cognitive acceleration and acknowledge a wider range of research and approaches- all committed to promoting thinking through science. The range of authors, both members of the science forum and some outside of the forum reflects this. The majority of first drafts of chapters have been submitted to the editors, and the review and redraft process is underway.
∙Let’s Think podcast series included interviews with noted science educators: Simon Poliakoff, Stuart Farmer, Christine Harrison
∙Successful defence of PhD from a member of the science forum for a thesis titled, ‘Making a CASE for the third space’.
Challenges and planned growth opportunities
∙Uptake of original secondary CASE materials by schools is small. Drawing on their
insight and experience, science members of the Let’s Think forum have considered
the limitations associated with a product that requires schools to implement a
sequence of 30 lessons to students aged 11-13 years old. Work is underway to
re-imagine the secondary CASE materials so that they are relevant, accessible
and support a new generation of schools and teachers.
∙The science team plan to create stronger working party links with Let’s Think
partnership schools so that these schools become sites of collaborative
research and development and tap into the current professional expertise of
teachers using Let’s Think resources. We will organise visits to these schools in order
to scope existing use, challenges and opportunities experienced by teachers
implementing science Let’s Think resources.
|
|
LET'S THINK FORUM
(A Company Limited by Guarantee)
∙Some of the science team plan to explore and articulate how the pedagogy and
resources for Let’s Think Science can anticipate and address wider
educational priorities such as the those identified in the interim curriculum review
(e.g. ‘continuing to consider how best to equip children and young people with the
essential knowledge and skills which will enable them to adapt and thrive in a rapidly
changing and AI-enabled world’; maintaining a balance of curriculum breadth and
depth; supporting effective transition from KS2 to KS3)
Partnership Schools
For reporting period February 2025 to January 2026
Achievements and Deliverables
∙Let’s Think Partnership Schools membership remained at 5 schools with continual
commitment from all partners.
∙Highlighting good practice continues with some partnership schools hosting tasters
days for Let’s Think programmes.
∙Let’s Think tutor capacity is increasing in some partnership schools with individuals
supporting and leading some aspects of Let’s Think courses.
∙Partnership Schools needs becoming increasing clear through more regular
meetings with stakeholders.
Challenges and planned growth opportunities
∙Let’s Think are seeking to develop more structured support to partnership schools in
the coming year via invites to pedagogical group meetings and build relationships
between partnership schools via school visits.
∙A new partnership school is on the brink and it is hoped others will be identified by
geographical needs and capacity moving forward.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JANUARY 2026
Let's Think Forum is a registered charity, limited by shares, domiciled in England and Wales, registration number 1150648. The registered office is Haslers, Old Station Road, Loughton, Essex, IG10 4PL.
2.Accounting policies
|
|
|
Basis of preparation of financial statements
|
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) - Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
Let's Think Forum meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy.
All income is recognised once the Company has entitlement to the income, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.
Income tax recoverable in relation to investment income is recognised at the time the investment income is receivable.
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs which contribute to more than one activity and support costs which are not attributable to a single activity are apportioned between those activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of time spent, and depreciation charges allocated on the portion of the asset’s use.
Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on directly undertaking the activities which further the Company's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.
Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the Company; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the institution with whom the funds are deposited.
Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.

Liabilities and provisions
|
Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the Balance Sheet date as a result of a past event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount of the settlement can be estimated reliably.
Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the Company anticipates it will pay to settle the debt or the amount it has received as advanced payments for the goods or services it must provide.
Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the amounts required to settle the obligation. Where the effect of the time value of money is material, the provision is based on the present value of those amounts, discounted at the pre-tax discount rate that reflects the risks specific to the liability. The unwinding of the discount is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities as a finance cost.
The Company only has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured at their settlement value with the exception of bank loans which are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method.
General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the Company and which have not been designated for other purposes.
Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the Company for particular purposes. The costs of raising and administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.
Investment income, gains and losses are allocated to the appropriate fund.
