During the financial year, Kwetu Coffee CIC continued to develop as a community-led social enterprise using speciality coffee to bring people together, reduce social isolation, and create opportunities for refugees, people seeking asylum, migrants, and the wider community across Glasgow. The company delivered mobile coffee services at community events, cultural celebrations, workshops, festivals, markets, and private functions, generating income that was reinvested into its social mission. Alongside trading activities, Kwetu Coffee CIC worked in partnership with organisations including Refuweegee, Refugee Sanctuary Scotland, Living Solo, Scottish Intercultural Association, and other community groups to provide accessible spaces where people could connect, build confidence, and develop new skills. A key area of activity during the year was delivering practical barista training and volunteering opportunities, enabling participants to gain experience in customer service, coffee preparation, teamwork, and hospitality. These activities helped improve confidence, reduce barriers to employment, and support participants on pathways towards volunteering, further training, and paid work. The company also used coffee as a tool to encourage meaningful conversations between people from different backgrounds, helping to reduce loneliness and strengthen community cohesion. Through outreach events and cultural activities, Kwetu Coffee CIC celebrated diversity while promoting understanding, inclusion, and social integration. As a newly established Community Interest Company, Kwetu Coffee CIC continued to build partnerships, expand its community reach, and develop sustainable income through trading while also securing grants and donations to support its charitable objectives. Throughout the year, all surplus income was reinvested into delivering community activities, improving equipment, supporting volunteers, and expanding programs that benefit the community. The company's activities have had a positive impact by creating welcoming spaces where people feel valued, connected, and empowered. By combining enterprise with community development, Kwetu Coffee CIC has helped strengthen social connections, improve wellbeing, develop practical skills, and contribute to a more inclusive and resilient community in Glasgow.
Kwetu Coffee CIC regularly engages with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure its activities continue to meet the needs of the communities it serves. Our stakeholders include refugees, people seeking asylum, migrants, volunteers, customers, partner organisations, funders, local community members, event organisers, and businesses that work with or support the CIC. Key partners during the year included Refuweegee, Refugee Sanctuary Scotland, Living Solo, Scottish Intercultural Association, Dear Green Coffee Roasters, and other community organisations. Consultation has taken place through informal conversations during events and training sessions, participant feedback forms, regular meetings with partner organisations, social media engagement, email correspondence, and discussions with volunteers and community members. We have also sought feed-back from organisations that have booked our mobile coffee cart or partnered with us to deliver com-munity activities. Feedback consistently highlighted the value of creating welcoming spaces where people from different backgrounds can meet, build friendships, learn new skills, and access volunteering and employment opportunities. Stakeholders also expressed a desire for more regular activities, additional barista training, greater outreach into communities, and a permanent venue from which Kwetu Coffee CIC could deliver its programs. In response, the company has expanded its partnerships, increased the number of community events and training opportunities, developed new volunteering roles, and is actively working towards securing a permanent Community Coffee Hub in Glasgow. The company has also continued to improve its ser-vices, equipment, and programme delivery based on stakeholder feedback, ensuring that its activities remain community-led and responsive to local needs.
