EDU GIVE CIC is a community interest company based in Birmingham, delivering education, creative digital, wellbeing and community empowerment activity across Sparkbrook, Balsall Heath, Sparkhill and the wider Stratford Road corridor. Our work responds directly to needs identified by residents, schools, faith centres and families, combining creative methods with practical skills development to reach communities who might otherwise miss out on these opportunities. During the year, we continued delivery of Digital Minds, a creative wellbeing programme supporting the mental health of Muslim young people in Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath East, funded by Birmingham City Council Public Health. The programme used digital photography, video storytelling and identity mapping alongside faith-aware coping tools to help young people explore difficult emotions in a safe, low-pressure way, resulting in a youth-led anti-stigma campaign and a body of anonymised evidence of improved confidence, emotional language and sense of belonging among participants. We also progressed Empowering Community Minds, an intergenerational programme funded through the National Lottery Community Fund’s Awards for All scheme, now at the halfway stage of a planned 40-week delivery. The programme brings together children and young people aged 7 to 14 and adults in Sparkhill and Sparkbrook through weekly sessions covering digital photography, social media and knife-crime awareness, sport, nutrition and mental wellbeing, building toward a community showcase event. Alongside these funded programmes, we submitted a proposal to Birmingham City Council’s Cultural Action Area Programme for Voices in Solidarity, a consortium project with Human Appeal and Ibn Rushd that would establish a permanent Cultural Studio at our Greencoat House base, designed around co-design with local residents, women, elders, young people and traders. Beyond our funded work, EDU GIVE CIC ran a wider, ongoing programme of free and low-cost community activity throughout the year, including Digital Photography for Beginners and Minecraft coding courses for children, school-based Knife Crime Awareness workshops across Birmingham, an Elderly Meetup bringing older and younger generations together, and City of Young Voices, supporting young people aged 16 to 25 to explore identity and heritage through digital storytelling. We also hosted family community events, including our Winter Wonder Fun Day and a Play Station Children Fun Day co-hosted with Ibn Rushd of Excellence, and have a further application in progress with the National Lottery Heritage Fund for Birmingham Together, a heritage and digital archive project celebrating the city’s diverse communities. Across all of this activity, EDU GIVE CIC’s community benefit has centred on building confidence, creative skills and a stronger sense of belonging among young people, families and residents, while strengthening partnerships with schools, faith organisations and community groups across Birmingham.
