REPORT OF THE DIRECTORS
for the year ended 31 DECEMBER 2025
The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the year ended 31 December 2025.
We were again able to donate £15,000 to wolf projects during 2025 .
We gave £7,500 to Josip for his research and conservation work in Croatia bringing the total given to him over the years to £96,921. He writes in his report that these funds continued to help with fieldwork for the wolf study in Croatia and the large carnivore study conducted in Turkiye, both of which occupied most fieldwork days. The fieldwork required an exceptional amount of driving due to the low density of wolves. He was, due to our financial help involve two students in assessing photos from camera traps only and one Msc student from the University of Zurich. Overall the funding from the UKWCT was essential for the continuity of the wolf research, extending the work of other projects and serving as the sole source for future investment through the training of visiting students and two researchers. During the reporting period the participation of three students and two researchers was made possible by UKWCT funding. Furthermore, the increasing prices of fuel, food and other living costs would have made the wolf studies impossible to the extent required for credible outcomes without support from the UKWCT. It is clear how much he values our help financially.
We also gave £7,500 to the Ethiopian wolf project bringing the total we have donated to them over the years to £117,100. Claudio Sillero writes again that the funds are used in continuing capturing and vaccinating the beautiful wolves against the ever - present threat of disease. They are continuing to monitor the peripheral packs of wolves in the Senetti area which has been very valuable information as to the overall state of the wolf population. Our funds help provide camera traps which are a valuable tool for conservation, in that the field workers can monitor wolf movements and new born litters, preventing threats such as stray dogs from disturbing them. Overall the project is in a good place which is wonderful to know.
On the domestic front we sadly had to say goodbye to Nuka a very special charismatic wolf of 14 years of age. He was born at the Trust together with his sisters Tala and Tundra in 2011. He had had difficultly swallowing for a few weeks and despite antibiotic treatments did not improve, eventually eating very little. He was put to sleep on 30th June and on examination was found to have mouth cancer. We now only have four wolves left Tala, Tundra, Sikko and Pukak. They continue to be looked after exceptionally well by my local volunteers who have known them since they were very young. I am indebted them especially the very regular weekday ones Pat Melton, Wendy Booker and Nikki Davies.
