Turnover represents amounts receivable for goods and services supplied in the normal course of business, stated net of trade discounts, value added tax and other sales taxes. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the goods have been delivered to the customer such that the significant risks and rewards of ownership have transferred to the customer. Turnover from joinery services and contract work is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract at the balance sheet date, measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date with the total estimated contract costs.
Inventories are valued at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. Cost comprises the cost of materials and, in respect of work in progress, a relevant proportion of labour and overheads according to the stage of completion.
