Six years ago, Tackle operated without employees. Today, the charity has a small professional team working alongside a dedicated network of volunteers and support group leaders. Together, they support a national community of people living with and affected by prostate cancer.

During 2025, the charity continued to strengthen its core offer, expand its reach, and launch new programmes designed to support individuals at critical moments in their diagnosis and treatment journey.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Purpose and Public Benefit

Tackle Prostate Cancer exists to support people living with and affected by prostate cancer through peer support, shared knowledge and collective advocacy.

The charity delivers public benefit by:

- Reducing isolation through peer-led support groups

- Providing access to lived experience and practical guidance

- Amplifying patient voices to influence services and policy

- Supporting volunteers to deliver safe, sustainable community support

The Trustees confirm they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the Charity Commission's public benefit guidance

Achievements and Performance

STRENGTHENING THE PEER SUPPORT NETWORK

Supporting and developing prostate cancer support groups remains the central focus of Tackle's work. During 2025 the charity continued to strengthen its national network of groups, providing guidance, resources and practical support to volunteer leaders across the UK. New groups were established in several areas and emerging groups were supported to develop sustainable leadership and governance arrangements. The charity also continued to provide opportunities for support group leaders to connect with one another, share learning and discuss challenges through national meetings and engagement with the central team, including EDI training in collaboration with PCUK.

Alongside day-to-day support, resources were developed to help groups strengthen their organisational resilience, including guidance on safeguarding, leadership succession and governance.

These activities ensure that support groups remain welcoming, sustainable and able to meet the needs of people living with and affected by prostate cancer within their communities.

DEVELOPING PEER COACHING SUPPORT

A major milestone during the year was the launch of the Make Sense of It peer coaching programme, funded by Movember.

This programme supports people newly diagnosed with prostate cancer by connecting them with trained volunteers who have lived experience. It provides reassurance, improves understanding of treatment options and helps individuals feel supported at a critical time.

During 2025, the charity established the programme's foundations, including recruitment, training, safeguarding frameworks and delivery infrastructure.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNICATIONS AND AWARENESS

During the year, Tackle refreshed its website to improve accessibility and better reflect its national offer. This resulted in a significant increase in engagement, demonstrating that more people are finding and accessing support.

The charity also developed the Many Faces of Prostate Cancer storytelling project, helping to share lived experiences and reflect the diversity of people affected.

Communications work focused on meaningful engagement and trust-building rather than headline metrics, supporting long-term awareness and connection.

CAMPAIGNING AND ADVOCACY

Tackle continued to ensure that the voices of people living with and affected by prostate cancer are represented in national discussions.

This was very clearly demonstrated by a collaboration with Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) to lobby The National Screening Committee during its deliberations on the future of prostate cancer screening. Initially debated by Conference, leaders encouraged group members to lobby MPs and decision makers. In the aftermath of the draft decision, Tackle worked with PCR, being co-signatories of their report questioning the validity of the draft findings.

The charity engaged with parliamentarians through the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Prostate Cancer and collaborated with sector partners to contribute to conversations around diagnosis, treatment and inequalities.

Much of this advocacy is driven by the lived experiences of support group members, ensuring that patient voices remain central to service development.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Tackle Prostate Cancer is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for the charity's strategic direction and oversight.

The Trustees bring a combination of professional expertise and lived experience. The charity is supported by a small staff team working closely with volunteers and support group leaders.

Future plans

The charity will continue to build on its progress in 2025 with a focus on:

- Expanding the Make Sense of It peer coaching programme

- Strengthening and growing the support group network

- Increasing awareness of peer support

- Improving accessibility for diverse communities

- Strengthening partnerships across the sector

- Strengthening The Board to work towards long term financial sustainability.

Through this work, Tackle will continue to ensure that everyone living with and affected by prostate cancer has access to support, information and community.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The National Federation of Prostate Cancer Support Groups (operating under the name: Tackle Prostate Cancer) is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 6 July 2015, and registered as a charity on 14 August 2015. On 1 January 2016, The National Federation of Prostate Cancer Support Groups acquired the whole of the assets and liabilities of the unincorporated association Prostate Cancer Support Federation (PCSF). PCSF had been formed in September 2007 and was dissolved in February 2016. The company was set up under a memorandum and Articles of Association (Articles) which set up the objects, powers, and governance of the company. These Articles were revised and adopted by special resolution on 6 February 2023.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

The Board consists of not less than three nor more than eleven Directors made up as follows:

- Up to seven Directors being members of member organisations and elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting

- Up to four Directors appointed by the Board who have specific expertise e.g., finance, HR, or marketing; and

- The Directors shall appoint one of their number as Chair and may determine the length of term to serve in that office. The Directors may also appoint one of their number as vice-chair.

Directors are also Trustees of the charity and govern the activities of the Charity as a Board. Upon appointment to the Board, to help ease their understanding of the current issues concerning the organisation, each new Director is provided with a copy of the Charity Commission publication entitled "The Essential Trustee: What you need to know" which gives guidance on what is expected of them. New Directors are also provided with briefings from the Chair on the structure, strategy and operations of the charity. The Board meets four times a year and devolves responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day running of the organisation to the executive team currently led by Sarah Gray and overseen by the Chair and Vice-Chair. Sub-committees with Trustee representation is in place to govern specific activities such as finance, fundraising, marketing, appointments and remuneration.

The purpose of the charity

The charity is a federation, whose member organisations ("members") are patient-led prostate cancer support groups. The purpose of the charity is to co-ordinate, focus and strengthen the efforts of prostate cancer patients in general, and its member organisations specifically, in their cause to alleviate the plight of those affected by prostate cancer.

Objectives and activities for the public benefit

As set out in its governing document, the objects of the charity are to relieve the sickness, physical and mental distress of persons affected by prostate cancer in the UK, but not exclusively by:

1. assisting and strengthening the activities in support of people affected by prostate cancer, including encouraging and supporting the formation of new local prostate support organisations throughout the UK

2. encouraging the improvement of health services available to prostate cancer patients; and

3. acting as a focus for and expressing the views of patient-led support groups concerning

a. raising awareness of prostate cancer

b. improving the health services available to prostate cancer patients; and

c. priorities for research into the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

Our vision is to be the 'go to' charity for peer support and our mission is to enable the growth of peer support groups across the country, ensuring the needs of people living with and impacted by prostate cancer are met, and their voices heard.

Our strategic imperatives as set out in our 3-year plan (2023-2026) are to:

- Grow and strengthen our relationships and reputation amongst peer support groups

- Recognise and amplify the importance of the user voice across the health and social care system

- Demonstrate our impact and value to the prostate cancer community and general public

- Secure financial sustainability through an effective fundraising strategy

- Ensure we have robust organisational governance to deliver our strategy and mandatory requirements

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The National Federation Of Prostate Cancer Support Groups ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 December 2025.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

Since your charity's gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a listed body. I can confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, which is one of the listed bodies.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

1.	accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2.	the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3.	the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4.

the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Basis of independent examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 for the year ended 31 December 2025.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2025 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for

(a)	ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and

(b)

preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company.

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with and delivered in accordance with the special provisions applicable to small charitable companies subject to the small companies regime.

1.	ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Employee benefits

The cost of short-term employee benefits are recognised as a liability and an expense. The cost of any material unused holiday entitlement is recognised in the period in which the employee's services are received.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

General funds - these are unrestricted funds which can be used for the charitable objects at the discretion of the Trustees and which have not been designated for other purposes.

Restricted funds - these are funds that can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.

Designated funds - these are unrestricted funds which have been set aside by the Trustees for specific purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is set out in notes to the financial statements.

Interest receivable

Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable; this is normally upon receipt or upon notification of the interest paid by the Bank or Building Society.

Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits

The charitable company operates a defined contribution stakeholder pension scheme. The amount charged to the statement of financial activities in respect of pension costs is the Charity's contributions payable in the year. The assets of the scheme are held separately from the Charity. There was no outstanding liability owed to the scheme at the end of the current or prior years.

Financial instruments

Basic financial assets, which include cash and bank balances, are initially measured at transaction price including transaction costs and are subsequently carried at amortised cost using the effective interest method unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where the transaction is measured at the present value of the future receipts discounted at a market rate of interest. Financial assets classified as receivable within one year are not amortised.

5.	TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

Trustees' expenses

The key management personnel of the Charity are the Trustees who do not receive remuneration but during the year the charity paid aggregate expenses totalling £2,690 (2024: £1,479) relating to 9 (2024: 5) trustees in respect of travel, accommodation and subsistence.

The charity includes Trustees' Liability Insurance in its combined insurance policy.
