ALNWICK INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL (REGISTERED NUMBER: 04108406)

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2025

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The organisation's objectives are to promote and advance the education of the public generally in the study and practice of the arts of music, poetry, acting, dancing, literature and similar arts in all their branches and the cultivation of public appreciation of those arts, in particular by means of presenting an annual music festival in Alnwick.

In setting our objectives and planning our activities the trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit.

Public benefit
The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's purposes for the public benefit and in planning future activities.

STRATEGIC REPORT
Achievements and performance
Charitable activities
Plans were to collaborate to deliver a live event in 2025. Unfortunately, our prime venue was under new contractual obligations, and the Market Place was unavailable for an event of our scale. Despite searching for alternatives our collaborative partners decided not to run an event. A concern facing the Trustees is recruiting other trustees and volunteers to both assist with the planning and set up as well as delivering our stand alone event Due to this along with ill health of Trustees and unforeseen circumstances with the locations traditionally used. Consequently a decision was made not to run an extended event in 2025 due to operational and financial considerations.

Future plans
In 2026, plans are to review the future operations of the festival. Offering individual events at a established venue such as the Playhouse are being considered rather than the collaboration with other organisations to deliver joint ventures. Working in collaboration with young people we are investigating funding the tuition and promotion of the traditional arts.

These options will ease the demands on the Trustees, festival committee and volunteer work force, while still contributing to the maintenance of traditional music and culture in the area.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
Alnwick International Music Festival is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee as defined by the Companies Act 2006. Under the memorandum and articles of association with which the organisation is governed, the charity has the power to make any investment which the trustees see fit.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
Trustees are appointed by existing trustees who serve throughout the year. The trustees meet monthly and a treasurer is appointed by the trustees to handle the day-to-day finances of the charity.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2025

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Tangible fixed assets
Equipment is stated at cost less accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Depreciation is calculated on the depreciable amount of each asset, being its cost less its estimated residual value, over its estimated useful life.

Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
