The company's purpose is: To involve the public in growing, harvesting, high quality food. To care for the trees, shrubs, and plants that form the Flow orchards, hedges and meadows, to ensure that they are productive for both humans and nature, i.e. high-quality food, resilience to price shocks, extreme weather. To nurture practical and creative skills in fruit and nut tree care, and use of natural products. To foster greater understanding and opportunity for personal and community development by bringing together people from all social, ethnic, mental and physical backgrounds. To celebrate the beauty and wonder of nature through community art and cultural events and activities through the seasons. To invite people into an active and enquiring relationship with each other and the land by using a range of different artforms and methods, and by bringing the science, art and local communities together. To develop new ideas and projects with sustained legacy in collaboration with people and organisations. In 2023/24 we delivered our annual January wassail attended by about 250 adults and children; attended the Green Phoenix Festival to reach out to the public and invite people to become orchard guardians; and hosted a musical picnic in the orchard on midsummer's day in collaboration with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Exeter University and Ukrainian families.
The companies stakeholders are local residents of Exeter but more specifically the residents of Exwick and St Thomas, the wards in which the orchards sit. We gather feedback from them throughout the year via social media and our website 'contact us' page. We also work closely with the Environment Agency and Exeter City Council, who own the land, and with Devon Wildlife Trust who lease some of it.
Director Emma Welton received the sum of £700 for organising and delivering the musical picnic and teaching the public, singing and playing for the wassail. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director's loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
