This has been a relatively inactive year for Make Space. We concluded a series of online creative workshops for people who experience self-harm, and for the rest of this financial year we have taken time to reorganise and to apply for funding. We have continued to maintain our regular presence and focus areas, as outlined below. Advocacy Coalitionary work with other organisations to highlight issues with service provision for those experiencing self-harm. Peer support Restructured our offer and applied for funding to support programmes for people who experience self-harm. This will follow a similar structure to the Arts and Ourselves project described in previous reports. Consultancy Consulting with organisations to help them advance their practice in relation to self-harm Research Attended and spoke at conferences on issues relating to self-harm. Informal support Offered informal support to people who contact us either by Twitter, Bluesky or Email (both people who experience self-harm and their supporters), helping them to find and access care they need. Online presence Began to transition our social media presence from Twitter to Bluesky, where we currently have 111 followers.
Our stakeholders are people with experience of self-harm and their supporters. The Arts and Ourselves project run in previous years has given us the opportunity to refine our offer of support and guided the redesign of our programmes going into the next financial year. The learning from this project have fed into successful funding bids for projects which are now in motion. These projects will address the gaps in care and community provision for people who experience self-harm. For all events we run we seek feedback on both the content and process. These are regularly reviewed by the facilitators to help us to reflect on our practice and build offerings that are in line with what people want and need. We also regularly receive feedback on our research and resources online – on Twitter, Bluesky, or via email. We incorporate these into our future planning of our events. We also often receive emails asking whether certain offerings are available from Make Space, which help us to plan future activities.
