Women+ in Geospatial was incorporated on 1st October 2021. The company runs the professional global network Women+ in Geospatial, with the aim to promote gender equality and inclusion in the geospatial industry and academia. During the financial year 2024-2025, November 2024 to October 2025, the network’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: - Strengthening the community engagement through our new community management platform. In October 2025, the network counted more than 5,500 subscribers. This forum allows our subscribers to network and share knowledge with each other and keep up-to-date with news and opportunities within the geospatial industry; - The publication and dissemination of our monthly newsletter to our subscribers. This is so those registered stakeholders who are not using the online forum, can still be kept informed of key news and events from the network as well as job opportunities; - A total of 10 online and in-person events for networking and career development were organised including a dedicated event during International Women’s Day in March 2025 and a highly attended webinar as part of the GEO Business Virtual conference in October 2025, - The year-long mentorship programme brought together and empowered so far more than 600 women+ from 60 countries and formed more than 150 mentor relationships; - Social media posts to promote an inclusive geospatial community, primarily on LinkedIn. The network’s social media reach has grown up to more than 45,000 followers. We also run an ‘Open Jobs in Geospatial’ newsletter on LinkedIn which has more than 23,000 subscribers. This newsletter helps the community to easier find jobs in the geospatial industry.
The company’s stakeholders are people from underrepresented gender backgrounds, including women, transgender and nonbinary people, who work or study in the geospatial domain around the world (such as geography, geographic information sciences, geosciences, Earth Observations, etc.). We also work with allies from the over-represented groups. During the registration to the network’s online forum and mailing list, we ask every interested stakeholder to provide the country where they are from, why they are interested in joining the network, what career level they are in and where they heard about the network. This information helps us to build a profile of the network’s stakeholders and their needs and in turn, to better identify what we can do to better address those needs. A preliminary analysis has revealed that the majority of the network’s stakeholders are early or mid-career professionals with the main interest in networking, mentorship, knowledge sharing and looking for career / job opportunities.
