During the financial year, the company continued to work on its two key community projects: the Winterton Community Orchard and the development of a community space at the Jubilee Club. This was a quieter year in terms of public facing activity, but a significant one, with the volunteer directors working extensively behind the scenes to overcome a series of obstacles and secure the long term future of both projects. In the early part of the year, the company explored the purchase of the Jubilee Club as a permanent community venue, and when this proved unviable within the available timescales, developed a rental proposal and licence to occupy for part of the building to house a community cafe, drop in space, and youth and adult activities. The Jubilee Club subsequently withdrew from this arrangement, and following consultation with funders the associated funding was reallocated to the Community Orchard project. The second half of the year therefore focused on the orchard, building on the tree, hedge and shrub planting completed in previous years. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in September 2025 between the company, Community Vision (as accountable body for Winterton 2022 funds) and Groundwork Yorkshire, establishing a formal governance structure, and a professional masterplan for the five-acre site was commissioned and produced, including proposals for a wetland area and a water borehole. The company worked through significant challenges, including the requirement for planning permission before most physical works could take place and site access constraints which prevented test drilling for the borehole, and agreed a phased delivery plan with partners covering the planning application, additional hedgerow planting, and fencing and a new gate to the site entrance, ensuring grant funding could be committed within funder deadlines. The company also secured a development grant of £10,789 from Winterton 2022. While this year's community benefit is largely foundational, the partnerships, masterplan, governance and funding now in place will enable delivery of a lasting community green space and a renewed programme of community activities in Winterton in the coming year.
Local residents of all ages (including children and young people) Volunteer directors The resident-led Winterton Big Local partnership (Winterton 2022) and Local Trust Community Vision (Local Trusted Organisation and accountable body) Partner organisations, particularly Groundwork Yorkshire The Jubilee Club and neighbouring landowners at the orchard site Methods of consultation: Regular consultation with the resident-led Winterton Big Local partnership at all key decision points, providing ongoing community input into both projects Meetings and negotiations with the Jubilee Club regarding the proposed purchase and rental of the building Meetings, calls and site visits with Groundwork Yorkshire and funding partners to develop and refine the orchard masterplan A Memorandum of Understanding (September 2025) establishing formal progress meetings through which all partners review and agree the direction of the orchard project No large-scale public consultation events were held this year; the masterplan builds on extensive community co-design work from previous years, and wider resident engagement is planned as the project moves into delivery Actions taken in response to feedback: Moved from purchase of the Jubilee Club to a rental proposal following funder feedback on financial viability, and reallocated funding to the orchard when the club withdrew Refined the orchard masterplan following stakeholder discussion, including the wetland area and borehole water supply Agreed a phased delivery plan prioritising works achievable within funding deadlines (planning application, hedgerow planting, fencing and gate)
