During the reporting period, the organisation received support for the development and expansion of the CatByte project (https://catbyte.org/), a global data integration and analysis platform focused on the illegal and legal trade in big cats. CatByte brings together multiple sources of information on big cat trade flows and makes this data accessible to a wide range of stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organisations, researchers, and enforcement agencies. This enables more informed decision-making regarding the protection status and conservation needs of species such as tigers and jaguars. A major output during the period was the production of a comprehensive analysis of the Asian big cat trade which was published in November 2025 (https://catbyte.org/the-trade-in-asian- big-cats/). This report contributed directly to international policy discussions and was used to inform decision-making at the CITES Conference of the Parties (CoP) in November 2025, supporting the
The CatByte platform has also evolved into an active international community of practice. It now includes over 85 members across 30 countries, representing more than 35 conservation NGOs, enforcement agencies, research institutions, and policy organisations. This diversity of expertise enhances the collective understanding of the complex and evolving threats facing big cats and strengthens collaborative approaches to addressing illegal wildlife trade. In addition, CatByte’s impact has been reinforced through active participation in international policy forums. The organisation contributed to three side events at the CITES CoP, focusing respectively on Asian big cats, jaguars, and a collaborative “United for Big Cats” initiative delivered in partnership with the International Big Cats Alliance and the South Asian Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN). These engagements further supported cross-sector collaboration and strengthened the evidence base available to decision-makers at the global level.
