COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BOATYARD BOULDERS CIC

Company Number: 15974046 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2025

Company activities and impact

The company operates Boatyard Boulders, an outdoor bouldering and graffiti venue. Boatyard Boulders opened during the reporting period and has provided a unique and accessible recreational facility for the local community. Throughout the year, the company has delivered a number of community benefits. We have created a lower-cost bouldering venue, helping to make climbing more accessible to a wider range of people. The venue also provides a distinctive setting for parties and social events, introducing many new participants to climbing who may not otherwise have engaged with the sport. The majority of our visitors are local residents, with approximately 70% travelling from within a five-mile radius. This demonstrates strong local demand and highlights the venue's role as a community asset. The venue complements rather than competes with existing indoor climbing facilities, as our peak season is during the spring and summer months when indoor climbing venues typically experience lower demand. As a result, we have not had a detrimental impact on existing operators. We have also worked closely with local youth organisations and regularly host up to five different Scout and Guide groups each week between May and October. These sessions provide opportunities for young people to participate in physical activity, develop confidence, and engage with outdoor recreation in a safe and supportive environment. In addition, we have developed what we believe to be the UK's first outdoor bouldering experience that combines climbing with large-scale graffiti art. This innovative approach has created a safer and more welcoming alternative bouldering environment, attracting new audiences and encouraging participation from people who may not traditionally visit climbing facilities.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's primary stakeholders are members of the local community who use Boatyard Boulders, including individual climbers, families, party groups, schools, Scouts and Guides, and other community organisations. Stakeholder feedback is gathered through our online booking platform, post-visit surveys, event feedback forms, online reviews, and informal conversations with customers. During the reporting period, we received 72 survey responses, which asked visitors about their overall experience, satisfaction, value for money, and the quality of staff interactions. Feedback has been extremely positive. Our Net Promoter Score (NPS) is 98.6%, significantly exceeding the benchmark for exceptional customer satisfaction. We also maintain an average Google review rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 89 reviews. We actively encourage customers to provide feedback and reviews to help us continually improve our services. Feedback has directly informed the development of the venue and our programme of activities. Consultation identified strong demand from families, and in response we increased the number of birthday party slots available, introduced a youth bouldering club, and launched dedicated Under 5s sessions. We also routinely survey participants following new events and activities to ensure they meet community needs and expectations. These actions have helped make the venue more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the local community.
