Company activities and impact

Executive Summary During the reporting year, ENKULA WELLNESS HUB C.I.C. continued to advance its mission of improving the health, wellbeing, and social inclusion of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in Scotland through culturally appropriate, community-led initiatives. Our work focused primarily on addressing mental health inequalities affecting Black men, strengthening community partnerships, promoting health awareness, and building organisational capacity to ensure long-term sustainability. A major achievement during the year was the successful delivery of The Resilient Brotha Project, a psychoeducational mental health programme specifically designed to address the stigma surrounding mental health among Black men. Alongside this flagship initiative, the organisation actively engaged with funding bodies, recruited new directors to strengthen governance, and participated in numerous community events and networking activities that increased awareness of our services and expanded collaborative opportunities. General Description of Activities During the year, ENKULA WELLNESS HUB C.I.C. undertook a range of activities aimed at improving community wellbeing, reducing health inequalities, and strengthening organisational development. Key activities included: Designing and delivering The Resilient Brotha Project, a culturally responsive mental health programme for Black men in Scotland. Delivering five structured psychoeducational workshops facilitated by a qualified Black male psychotherapist, covering emotional wellbeing, stress management, anxiety, depression, emotional intelligence, healthy masculinity, communication, belonging, resilience, and community support. Establishing an ongoing WhatsApp peer-support group to enable participants to continue supporting one another beyond the workshops. Conducting community consultation and engagement activities to better understand barriers preventing Black men from accessing mental health services. Working collaboratively with community organisations to improve recruitment and participation, including partnerships with LGBT Health Scotland and other community organisations. Participating in Black and Minority Ethnic community events to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing. Networking with wider community organisations whose work aligns with the objectives of ENKULA WELLNESS HUB. Engaging with charitable trusts, heritage funders and other grant-making organisations to secure future funding opportunities. Recruiting additional directors to strengthen governance, leadership, and the long-term sustainability of the organisation. Community Benefit The activities undertaken during the year generated significant benefits for both participants and the wider community. The Resilient Brotha Project created a culturally safe environment where Black men could openly discuss emotional wellbeing, challenge stigma surrounding mental health, and develop healthier coping strategies. Participants increased their understanding of stress, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and resilience while learning practical techniques such as journaling, cognitive behavioural strategies, the STOPP technique, and self-reflection. The project also addressed one of the most significant barriers facing Black men (social isolation). Participants developed supportive peer relationships, increased their sense of belonging, and gained confidence to discuss mental health openly within their families and communities. The programme promoted healthier models of masculinity by encouraging emotional openness, self-awareness, responsibility, and mutual support. Through group discussions and shared lived experiences, participants challenged harmful stereotypes and developed practical skills for managing emotional wellbeing. The creation of an ongoing peer-support network ensured that support continued beyond the formal workshops, helping to build longer-term resilience and stronger community connections. Beyond the mental health programme, ENKULA WELLNESS HUB increased awareness of health inequalities affecting Black communities through participation in community events, networking opportunities, and collaborative partnerships with other organisations. These activities strengthened relationships across the voluntary sector and positioned the organisation for future community impact. The primary beneficiaries of our activities included: Black men experiencing mental health challenges or social isolation. Black and Minority Ethnic communities across Scotland. Families of participants who benefit from improved emotional wellbeing and healthier relationships. Community organisations working collaboratively to improve health equality. The wider public through increased awareness of culturally appropriate mental health support. Directors' Remuneration No directors received remuneration, salary, bonuses, or financial benefits from ENKULA WELLNESS HUB C.I.C. during the reporting year. All directors served voluntarily and contributed their time, expertise, and leadership to support the organisation's community objectives. Where legitimate organisational expenses were incurred in carrying out approved activities, these were reimbursed in accordance with the organisation's financial policies. Looking Forward ENKULA WELLNESS HUB C.I.C. remains committed to reducing health inequalities and improving mental wellbeing within Black and Minority Ethnic communities. Building on the success of The Resilient Brotha Project, the organisation intends to: Expand culturally appropriate mental health programmes across Scotland. Develop additional peer-support initiatives for underserved communities. Strengthen partnerships with statutory, voluntary, and community organisations. Secure additional grant funding to increase the reach and sustainability of our services. Continue raising awareness of mental health through community education, outreach, and engagement. Further strengthen governance and organisational capacity through board development and strategic planning. The Board of Directors remains grateful to all participants, volunteers, partners, funders, and community members whose support has enabled ENKULA WELLNESS HUB C.I.C. to make a meaningful contribution towards healthier, stronger, and more connected communities.

Consultation with stakeholders

Stakeholder Consultation Community consultation remained central to the planning and delivery of our activities. Prior to delivering The Resilient Brotha Project, extensive engagement took place with members of the target community to understand barriers to participation. Conversations highlighted important issues including competing work commitments, financial pressures, transport costs, and preferences regarding online versus face-to-face delivery. Feedback from community members directly influenced several project decisions, including increasing participant support payments to better reflect transport and attendance costs and strengthening partnerships with trusted community organisations to improve recruitment. Participants were actively involved throughout the programme by completing wellbeing questionnaires, contributing to group discussions, providing verbal feedback after each workshop, and identifying future topics of interest. Their experiences informed the ongoing development of the programme and will shape future mental health initiatives. ENKULA WELLNESS HUB also maintained regular engagement with partner organisations, community leaders, funding bodies, and wider stakeholders to identify emerging community needs and explore opportunities for collaboration. Participation in community events and networking activities further strengthened relationships with local organisations, allowing the CIC to promote its services while learning from other organisations working within the health and wellbeing sector.
