COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

AFRICAWAD RECYCLING COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 09834002 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 October 2025

Company activities and impact

The wars in Ukraine and Israel had a significant impact on Africawad from 2023 onwards, and the effects continued into 2025. Because of the disruption caused by these conflicts, one of our main suppliers began providing lower-quality second-hand clothing, which resulted in substantial fi-nancial losses. In 2024–2025, we reviewed our operations, changed factories, and relocated to im-prove the quality of our supply. We are now focused on sourcing better-quality clothing at more affordable prices while continuing our environmental mission. Our organisation remains committed to exporting good-quality second-hand clothing to develop-ing countries, helping to reduce textile waste in the North East of England and protecting the envi-ronment. We also continue to create employment and volunteering opportunities through the sorting of clothes and shoes. In addition, we support immigrants and people whose first language is not English to integrate positively into their local communities in the North East. We remain dedicated to promoting edu-cation for young girls in Africa while continuing our commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.

Consultation with stakeholders

We have developed stronger relationships with suppliers who are committed to supporting the growth of our Community Interest Company. Our directors, volunteers, suppliers, and supporters have worked closely together to ensure the organisation remains operational despite the challenges we have faced. During the year, we shipped approximately nine containers, the lowest number since the organisation was established, this is the ongoing impact of the wars. Despite these challenges, we continued to provide volunteering opportunities within the organisation, and several volunteers successfully progressed into full-time and part-time employment. Although our cash flow has been severely affected, we remain determined to recover, strengthen the organisation, and continue working towards long-term sustainability. Our commitment to protecting the environment and supporting community integration remains at the heart of everything we do.
