Babigloo provides accessible early years music programmes that improve family wellbeing, reduce isolation, support parent-child bonding, and encourage communication and sensory development in babies through live music and creative interaction. Sessions are delivered in partnership with Family Hubs and community organisations across Dorset and are offered free or subsidised to ensure accessibility for families. The project supported approximately 180 families during the 2024–2025 funding phase. Beneficiaries - Babies aged 0–12 months across Dorset, referred by Family Hubs, midwives and health visitors, or self-referred - Parents and carers of babies and young children - Families experiencing isolation, anxiety, low confidence or wellbeing challenges - Families accessing Dorset Family Hubs - Families needing support with parent-child communication and bonding - Families with additional needs, including hearing impairments - Rural and underserved communities across Dorset - Early years music practitioners and trainee music leaders - Community organisations and Family Hub partners supporting family wellbeing Babigloo particularly benefits: - New parents seeking social connection and reduced isolation - Families experiencing stress, anxiety or reduced wellbeing - Parents wanting to improve bonding and communication with their babies - Babies benefiting from sensory, musical and developmental stimulation - Families unable to access commercial classes due to financial pressures - During the last year, Babigloo supported two LGBTQ+ families Activities During the Year Babigloo delivered non-verbal, multi-sensory music programmes for babies and their parents or carers across Dorset in partnership with Family Hubs, arts organisations and community venues. Activities included: - Weekly 45-minute Babigloo music sessions using live music, movement, sensory materials and non-verbal communication. Programmes run for eight consecutive weeks, with parents signing up for the whole programme. - Delivery of programmes across West Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck, Chesil and other Dorset locations - Partnership working with 12 Dorset Family Hubs across 23 venues - Training, mentoring and development of new early years music leaders - Development of organisational sustainability, management and administration systems - Collaborative work with Dorset early years and music sector partners - Evaluation and reflective practice to improve services and measure impact The organisation delivered programmes in: - Bridport - Dorchester - Portland - Swanage - Shaftesbury - Wareham - Bovington - Blandford - Herston - Littlemoor Impact - Families reported improved mental health and wellbeing - According to feedback from Family Hubs, Babigloo programmes have the highest retention rate - Parents experienced increased confidence and reduced isolation - Music-making became integrated into family life at home - Babies showed improvements in engagement, listening, vocalisation and social interaction - Babigloo expanded its geographical reach across Dorset - New music leaders were recruited and trained, increasing organisational sustainability
Key Stakeholders Families, Parents and Carers Babigloo worked directly with babies, parents, carers and families across Dorset through weekly multisensory music programmes designed to improve wellbeing, communication, bonding and social connection. How Babigloo worked with them: - Delivered accessible music sessions for babies aged 0–12 months - Gathered feedback through questionnaires, interviews and informal discussions - Adapted programmes in response to participant feedback - Created welcoming, non-judgemental environments for families - Encouraged music-making at home and family participation - Responded to wellbeing and inclusion needs, including anxiety, isolation and hearing impairments Dorset Family Hub Network Babigloo partnered with Dorset Family Hubs to reach families and deliver community wellbeing outcomes. How Babigloo worked with them: - Delivered programmes across 12 Family Hubs in 23 venues - Family Hub staff recruited and supported participating families - Worked collaboratively to support parent-child communication and family mental health outcomes - Helped connect families with wider support services - Contributed to Family Hub wellbeing objectives and local early years priorities Dorset Council and Early Years Services Babigloo collaborated with Dorset Council staff and early years practitioners supporting families. How Babigloo worked with them: - Worked alongside activity workers and family support staff - Supported local authority wellbeing and early years strategies - Delivered inclusive sessions accessible to vulnerable and isolated families - Contributed to outcomes relating to communication, confidence and family wellbeing Octagon Music Hub/Dorset Music Service Babigloo worked strategically with music education partners to support early years music development in Dorset. How Babigloo worked with them: - Contributed to discussions about early years music strategy - Participated in partnership and advocacy work - Joined the Octagon Music Hub Special Interest Group - Supported skills development and the visibility of early years music practice Community and Arts Organisations Babigloo partnered with arts and community organisations that hosted sessions and supported delivery. Stakeholders included: - Bridport Arts Centre - Shaftesbury Arts Centre - Swanage & Purbeck Development Trust - BSharp - The Arts Development Company - Activate - Take Art - Soundwaves South West - Dorpip How Babigloo worked with them: - Delivered programmes in community venues - Shared resources and local networks - Collaborated on family wellbeing and creative health objectives - Increased families’ access to arts and music experiences Swanage and Purbeck Development Trust (SPDT) SPDT acted as both a venue partner and a Family Hub partner. How Babigloo worked with them: - Delivered sessions in SPDT-managed buildings - Supported Family Hub outcomes, including parent-child communication and family mental health - Helped families access wider community services and support networks - Contributed to SPDT’s wellbeing and community engagement objectives Music Leaders, Freelancers and Trainees Babigloo expanded and supported its creative workforce during the year. How Babigloo worked with them: - Recruited and trained new music leaders - Provided mentoring, shadowing and professional development - Held reflective practice and team development sessions - Developed administration and management capacity - Supported skills-sharing and collaborative practice Funders Babigloo worked with grant funders to expand access and improve sustainability. Funders included: - The National Foundation for Youth Music: £50,250 for 2024–2025 as part of the Catalyser Grant - Dorset County Council: £11,100 Total funding for 2024–2025: £61,350
