All Directors and volunteers at Sound Women Bristol (SWB) have lived experience of battling discrimination and all live in what is classed as disadvantaged areas and this year we have continued to volunteer giving women support, advice and opportunity to learn new skills that will not only address issues of social isolation but help empower and build confidence. SWB delivered podcast and radio workshops that allowed women a safe space and provided a platform for voices that so often go unheard. We have had huge success with these since we started and determined to address issues highlighted by our research and cuts to youth services. We continue to delivered workshops, events, safe spaces for women of all ages but also specifically ran events aimed at young women 18-25 as our research in community and with stakeholders and out steering group revealed urgent need specifically due to epidemic of knife crime and gang culture and since cuts to youth and mental health services we been asked to provide more opportunities for young women. We continue offering opportunities to volunteer at SWB and be part of the SWB networking and support group. We now have just over 1500 members, since we started we continued research with the community and community groups/centres that still back up this crucial need. We have recently been working with new organisations such as Alice project, Bristol Pride, Peacemakers Patrol & Reverend Palmer and helped to organise recent awareness campaigns around knife crime as well as many local youth groups and schools as well as other key local organisations from Basement Studio Music Charity, Malcolm X Community Centre, Bristol Women's Voice, Interculture CIC, Creative Youth Network and many others.

In this accounting year we concentrated on detailed research and consultations with community members, SWB members and key organisations and research revealed only 23% of all festival line-ups are female led and behind the scenes only 6% of women are working. We have developed new training opportunities to address this. (As well as SWB's own research & surveys, these stats also backed up by Huddersfield University). SWB relies heavily on a community driven approach & detailed research with the community & organisations we work with. Our research includes discussions/surveys with all the groups we have & will work with, it revealed the urgent need for safe spaces and activities that are needed and will appeal to women from marginalised backgrounds. SWB’s vision and activities are informed by direct feedback from our extensive engagement with the community including our 1500 members & our steering group. Our latest research has been over the last year plus insights from our events, training sessions, feedback from local radio, attending events and social media engagement. We have worked closely many inner-city groups and helped organise events to create awareness and highlight issues enabling us to meet with many community members. These organisations include The Alice Project, Basement Studio Music Charity, Ujima Radio, BCFM Radio, Noods Levels, Big Team CIC, Bristol Women's Voice, Interculture CIC, UWE Bristol, Trinity Arts Centre, Full Circle Docklands, The Cause Bristol, Boomsatsuma. Lady of the House and many others, driving organisational growth and building strategic partnerships across culture, media, technology, live events and public policy and focus on bringing this experience in strategic partnerships, organisational growth and transformational leadership to a broader range of sectors. Our events are designed to reflect the diverse experiences within our community.
