Women in Tech Dorset is a Community Interest Company focused on creating a safe space for women and allies to connect, learn and grow, whilst seeking to improve and celebrate diversity in technology and technology-enabled businesses in Dorset. In the financial year from July 2024 Women in Tech Dorset has benefitted this community in the following ways: Three face to face community events, featuring local speakers at different stages in their career and highlighting the breadth of tech and tech enabled employers in the area. These have reached an audience of over 150 women and allies. These events have purposefully been held in rural parts of Dorset as well as the more densely populated conurbations, to reach those who are in more danger of being isolated from the community. Launching the re:connect Conference, building an inclusive an representative audience and speakers, ensuring a gender, age and ethnicity mix across workshop providers, keynote speakers and supporting underrepresented groups with attending. Developing the Women in Tech Dorset Playbook; identifying best practice and exploring how to share case studies. Delivered STEM activities to seven young people, enabling parents to participate in face to face networking sessions.
Attendees of events are the Women in Tech Dorset CIC community, and events have focused on workplace culture, the support available for career entrants and what women look for in an organisation where they can grow and thrive. Through focused networking discussion, the community has contributed to the Playbook, and identified potential ways in which employers can support. Through panel discussion and personal career journeys, the community has learnt about different experiences and found support when seeking to grow. Suggestions are always welcomed, and activities reported through the Dorset Digital Skills Partnership.
