Principal activities of the company

Tambu Ayis Support Service CIC supports African and Caribbean women and families affected by domestic abuse, gender-based violence and trauma through culturally informed empowerment, wellbeing and awareness-raising activities. During the financial year, the company’s principal activities included delivering EmpowerHer workshops; producing and participating in podcasts concerning domestic abuse and gender-based violence; delivering an International Women’s Day event with community partners; organising an 80s-themed fundraising event; and undertaking social-media awareness activity, including Black Herstory Month. The company also worked collaboratively with local organisations, including Southern Housing and Hackney Council, to promote women’s empowerment, wellbeing and community engagement.

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover represents income received from fundraising events and related community activities. Income is recognised when the relevant event or activity takes place and the company becomes entitled to the income. Turnover is stated after deducting refunds and transaction fees, where applicable.

Company activities and impact

During the financial year, Tambu Ayis Support Service CIC delivered EmpowerHer workshops designed to promote empowerment, confidence, wellbeing and awareness among women from African and Caribbean communities. The company also organised an 80s-themed disco to raise funds for its future community activities. The event brought members of the community together in an enjoyable and inclusive setting while raising awareness of the company and generating a modest amount of income to support its work. As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the company produced a podcast raising awareness of domestic abuse and gender-based violence. A representative of the company also participated in a separate podcast delivered with Hackney Council, contributing to wider public discussion and awareness of these issues. The company helped to deliver an International Women’s Day event in partnership with other community organisations, including Southern Housing. The event provided an opportunity for women to connect, participate in wellbeing and empowerment activities, and access information in a supportive community setting. Throughout the year, the company also used its social-media platforms to raise awareness of issues and campaigns relevant to women and the wider community, including Black Herstory Month. These activities helped to increase awareness, celebrate the experiences and contributions of Black women, encourage community engagement and promote the wellbeing and empowerment of the company’s intended beneficiaries.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders included women from African and Caribbean communities, participants attending its workshops and community events, partner organisations, and professionals working with women affected by domestic abuse and gender-based violence. Stakeholders were consulted informally through conversations with participants during activities, discussions with partner organisations when planning and delivering events, and responses to the company’s awareness-raising work. The company worked collaboratively with partners, including Southern Housing and Hackney Council, to ensure that activities were relevant and accessible to the communities it was established to benefit. Feedback and discussions helped inform the subjects addressed through the EmpowerHer workshops, community events, podcasts and social-media awareness activity. They also supported the company’s continuing development of culturally informed activities focused on women’s empowerment, wellbeing and awareness.
