Company activities and impact

During the financial year 2024-25, Thames Community Hydro CIC obtained funding from the UK Government Department of Energy Security and Net Zero Greater South East Net Zero Hub to develop a feasibility study/business case for the installation of a low head micro hydropower turbine on or around the area of Molesey Weir/Ash Island on the river Thames near Hampton Court, South West London. The funding was used to appoint a specialist consultants to review 4 possible sites for the installation. Having developed a best case solution, the appointed consultants developed outline designs and made formal pre-application submissions to the two key statutory authorities, Richmond Council Planning and the Environment Agency Abstraction Licences, etc. While a response from the Environment Agency was received within the financial year, no response was received from Richmond Council. As the feasibility study, business case was in development throughout the financial year 2024-25 there has been no benefit to the community generated as yet.

As the feasibility study, business case was in development throughout the financial year 2024-25 there has no stakeholder consultation held, other than with the landowner of the prospective installation sites on Ash Island.
