The company was incorporated during the financial year and has focused on establishing the foundations required to deliver high-quality support for veterans, service leavers and Armed Forces families. During the year, the company has: Developed its organisational infrastructure, including governance, safeguarding and key operational policies. Established its brand identity, website and promotional materials to raise awareness of its work. Built relationships with organisations supporting the Armed Forces community, employers and business support providers. Developed a structured enterprise support programme designed to help veterans and service leavers explore self-employment and entrepreneurship. Researched the needs of the Armed Forces community and identified funding opportunities to enable future programme delivery. Submitted a number of funding applications to support the launch of free and subsidised enterprise programmes for veterans and their families. Achieved Bronze status in the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, demonstrating the company's commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. As a result of this preparatory work, Barracks to Boardroom CIC is well placed to begin delivering enterprise support programmes and mentoring for veterans, service leavers and Armed Forces families during the next financial year.
Consultation has taken place through discussions with veterans, service leavers, Armed Forces charities, business support organisations and employers. The director has also drawn upon his own lived experience as a veteran, together with many years' experience supporting entrepreneurs and social enterprises, to identify common barriers faced by those transitioning from military to civilian life. Relationships have been established with organisations including the North East Business & Innovation Centre (BIC), Veterans in Crisis, the Army Benevolent Fund and other organisations supporting veterans and the Armed Forces community. Discussions have also taken place with employers and business support providers to better understand how enterprise support can complement existing transition and employment services. The company has used this engagement to develop its proposed enterprise support programme, identify priority areas for future delivery and shape funding applications. Stakeholder feedback has consistently highlighted the need for practical, veteran-specific business support, mentoring, networking opportunities and stronger pathways into self-employment. The company will continue to seek feedback from participants, partners and stakeholders as programmes are delivered, ensuring services continue to evolve in response to community need.
