| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements are presented in sterling (£), which is the functional currency of the company.
Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty
In the application of the company's accounting policies, the directors are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. These estimates and underlying assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors considered to be relevant.
Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The key judgements and sources of estimation uncertainty are as follows:
Valuation of stocks
Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value. The directors exercise judgement in assessing the recoverability of stock and making appropriate provision for obsolete or slow-moving items.
Useful economic lives of tangible fixed assets
Depreciation is calculated based on the estimated useful lives of assets. The directors review these estimates annually and revise them where necessary to reflect current conditions.
Recoverability of trade debtors
The company reviews trade debtors for impairment and makes provision where there is objective evidence that amounts may not be recoverable. This requires judgement in assessing the creditworthiness of customers and historical collection experience.
Turnover
Turnover represents the invoiced value of goods and services supplied during the year, excluding value added tax. Revenue from plasma and flame cutting services is recognised at the point the work is completed and delivered to the customer, or when collection occurs, as this is when control passes and the company has an enforceable right to payment. Where work is performed over a period of time, turnover is recognised when the performance obligation has been satisfied, based on the stage of completion where this can be reliably measured.
Intangible assets
Intangible assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, intangible assets are measured at cost less any accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses.
Tangible fixed assets
| Plant and machinery | - |
| Fixtures and fittings | - |
| Motor vehicles | - |
| Computer equipment | - |
Financial instruments
The company applies Section 11 "Basic Financial Instruments". Financial assets and liabilities are recognised at transaction price and subsequently measured at amortised cost.

| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES - continued |
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate.
Going concern
The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. The directors have considered the company’s financial position and are satisfied that it will be able to meet its liabilities as they fall due for a period of at least twelve months from the date of approval of these financial statements.
