Description of the company's activities during the financial year In addition to its core stringing and coaching services, East London Stringing and Tennis Solutions CIC used a grant of GBP 42,000 from Tower Hamlets Tennis to establish Bola Beach Tennis, East London's first beach tennis club, located in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick. The grant funded the construction of the playing surface (specialist sand and groundworks), public liability insurance, and the initial website and marketing needed to open the venue safely to the public. Bola Beach Tennis officially launched on 27 June 2025 with a free public open day, followed by a seven-week programme of coaching, social play, and community sessions. Since opening, Bola Beach Tennis has: Welcomed over 667 new customers, with 23% returning to book again Run paid coached sessions, pay-as-you-go court bookings, and Sunset Social community evenings Delivered free sessions for local community groups, elders, youth clubs, and schools, partnering with over 15 organisations including Social Ark, Badu Sports, The King's Trust, Morningside and Gascoyne Youth Club, local nurseries, and Hackney Wick schools Offered a residents' discount code, used 62 times by people living locally Attracted a further 150-200 visitors through community partnerships and 300-400 through corporate partnerships (with local businesses including Botify, Community Sauna Baths, and others) Received national and local press coverage, including features in the Hackney Gazette and The Wick How these activities have benefited the community Created a new, previously unavailable recreational facility for residents of Hackney Wick and the wider Tower Hamlets area Delivered free, no-cost access to beach tennis for groups who would not otherwise have been able to try the sport, including older residents (elders), young people through youth clubs, and local schoolchildren Independent participant survey results showed 100% of respondents would like to see the facility become permanent, and 100% rated their experience Good or above (81.6% Excellent, 18.4% Very Good) Supported local employment and subcontracting opportunities - coaching, event hosting, and site management roles were provided to local individuals during the year Provided a genuinely accessible, low-cost/free entry point into an emerging sport Use of the grant The GBP 42,000 grant from Tower Hamlets Tennis was applied in full toward establishing the beach tennis facility during the year, principally site surfacing (sand and groundworks, circa GBP 32,000), insurance, and launch marketing, creating a venue that in its first season alone reached over 1,100 visitors and delivered a substantial free community programme
