During the period to 31 October 2025 the company ran the 2025 iteration of the annual Southend Jazz Festival. The festival saw the biggest ever programme, with 32 festival events in total, and over 2,500 people getting involved. In accordance with the objectives of the CIC they generated activity within the community and brought in jazz lovers from further afield to enjoy the activities on offer which included performances and workshops for adults, children and families. The festival was a huge success, garnering radio and printed press attention both locally and nationally, including Jazz FM. The festival visited a total of 17 venues across Southend, bringing financial benefit to venues across the City. Feedback was extremely positive, with stakeholders voicing excitement for 2026. 2025 saw the forgoing of exciting new partnerships for the Festival, with a three year finding agreement with Ronnie Scott’s, through their charitable foundation, to find the school workshops across the festival. We teamed up with the UK’s biggest producer of jazz radio content, Folded Wing, with live recordings from the festival events being played on a special BBC Radio 3 show with Soweto Kinch. We also worked, for the first time, with Metal, an established UK-wide arts company, to deliver an “Artist in Residence”, giving a young musician time and space to develop new music. We look to build on these new partnerships in to 2026.
The company’s stakeholders are the local community, visitors to the festival and the artists involved in both the performances and workshops. Two of the company directors are actively involved in the jazz community in Southend and have worked hard to ensure the activities offered during the festival have been advertised and supported for the benefit of the community. We ensure that we request feedback in order to continually evolve the festival and provide as many of the activities and performances that will grow the festival over the coming years. We also convene three times a year with a Community Advisory Panel made up of a range of stakeholders within the Southend Creative and Business Communities. They offer guidance and advice of how to best shape the festival for the benefit of the community.
