Company activities and impact

24-25 has again enabled Shared Harmonies to continue in our growth. We have increased our turnover, through a mixture of grants, commissions, corporate sales and fundraising. We have delivered our regular groups and added a second Sing from the Heart group (dementia) increasing our reach and impact. Sing and Breathe We have continued to run weekly sessions (40 per area per year) for participants with long term respiratory conditions, such as COPD and Pulmonary Fibrosis in Wakefield, Leeds and Halifax, Todmorden, Dewsbury and Huddersfield. Our sessions help participants to reduce breathlessness and isolation, improve wellbeing and increase positive self-management of the symptoms experienced with their respiratory condition. We still work closely with NHS respiratory physios, offering taster sessions as part of their pulmonary rehab programmes and taking referrals. We have successfully secured funding to continue some of these groups and covered the rest through other fundraising activity. Participant numbers have grown throughout the year in all groups. Participant quote: “It has greatly improved my breathing, now I rarely need my inhalers” Our latest impact statistics: “I know how to manage my breathing”: 65 %. disagree or strongly disagree before S and B 100 %. agree after S and B “I find normal household activity difficult” 28.5 %. strongly agreed before S and B 0 %. after S and B “I experience coughing, tightness or mucus in my chest” 45 %. strongly agreed before S and B 5 %. strongly agreed after S and B “I have lots of energy” 4.8 %. strongly agree before S and B 33.3 %. strongly agree after S and B Singing for Happiness, Orb This group, supporting people with enduring mental health challenges is commissioned by Orb Enterprise. It runs mainly in person but has a zoom option for accessibility. Sessions include warm up exercises, singing and an opportunity for participants to connect and chat, offering vital support. Participants accessing the singing group report reduced stress and anxiety, increased sense of community and utilisation of breath techniques and songs to control anxiety and panic attacks. Participants also report increased confidence, happiness and wellbeing. Sessions are now supported by a volunteer managed by Orb. Participant Quotes: “It has increased my mood and enjoyment of life. It is very important to me.” “Feel like I’m part of a community. A stable group when things in my life go up and down” Participants reported that attending Orb Singing for Happiness helped them: Feel Less Isolated 80 %. reported this “very much” Feel More Confident 80 %. reported this “very much” Support Their Wellbeing 100 %. reported the group helped with their wellbeing “very much” Relax Breathe Harmonise We have currently paused our 10 week programmes due to lack of funding. However we have continued our online support group for people who previously completed our programme Participants of this group report a sense of community and continuation of increased ability to better manage symptoms including reduced breathlessness, reduced brain fog, reduced stress and anxiety, increased energy, and increased positivity. Sing From the Heart As well as our successful Sing from the Heart group in Halifax we have opened a new group in Huddersfield. Sing from the Heart is for people living with dementia and their carers has proved to be both in demand and impactful. We have had to introduce a waiting list for Halifax and the Huddersfield group is building steadily. We are pioneering new approaches in our singing for dementia work, teaching new songs by call and response and supporting participants to co-create their own songs. This approach gives participants agency, enables expression and is enabling new memory formation. Our participants love to showcase their talents with performances at local events. Participant Quotes: "Its the one time in the week we laugh together and can rest from the stress" "It enhances our enjoyment of life as every day not easy. We look forward to it every Tuesday" Singing for Parkinson’s We have continued to work with Parkinson’s UK local Halifax group to deliver a successful singing group with growing numbers. We have had to implement a waiting list for this group. Participant Quotes: “Much more aware of my mindset and better able to manage it positively.” “When I come home on a Monday afternoon I feel a real sense of achievement. I am relaxed.” "It helps to keep the status quo rather than deteriorating" Notable Before and After data: I know how to manage my breathing: Before 9.1 %. strongly agreed After 45.5 %. strongly agreed My speaking voice feels strong and clear: Before attending 9.1 %. strongly disagreed, 27.3 %. disagreed After 0 perc. strongly disagreed 9.1 %. disagreed I find it easy to vary the tone and emotion in my voice when speaking: Before 30 % strongly disagreed or disagreed After 0 %. strongly disagreed or disagreed Corporate Workshops Our bookings included workshops and event energisers for organisations including Mindful Business Charter, Climb UK, NatWest, National Mining Museum
