Water 4 Wellbeing CIC started in this year and hosted a series of one-off trial open-water dipping events for charities, hotels, business networks in the South Lakes and North Cumbria and hospices which raised the profile of Water 4 Wellbeing CIC. These events were held in the evenings, during the day and early mornings to fit in with themed national weeks, such as hospice care week and a fundraising evening gathering and night swim for Flyn’s Barn. People who benefitted included: people experiencing grief, depression, low mood, stress, those how had experienced trauma and people suffering from anxiety. The sessions took place in Lake Windermere and Ullswater. Research into which organisations to reach out to were ongoing, such as NHS providers such as GP surgeries, primary care networks, wellbeing hubs, social prescribers. Funding was unsuccessfully applied for – Rural England Prosperity Fund. A lot of work was done on creating a website and social media platforms whilst creating a small, yet targeted range of merchandise to sell, using local crafts people within Cumbria to generate income and celebrate local artisan businesses. Time was spent trying to create business partnerships with outdoor centers, Aire B and B’s and hotels with a lakeside frontage. CPD for running a CIC was undertaken over a 10-week period to increase knowledge on marketing, budgeting, business planning etc. Free on-line courses (leading to level 2 qualifications) in mental health and wellbeing awareness and suicide awareness and self-harm were successfully taken to ensure that knowledge around mental health would enhance client’s experiences when open-water dipping.
