Unite Ashford CIC runs monthly nightclubs for people with learning disabilities. We provide a safe and inclusive social space that is attended by disabled people in the community and their carers. It provides an opportunity to form social connections and friendships, to relax and exercise. In the year the report relates to, Unite Ashford CIC ran 12 monthly nightclub nights.
The company stakeholders are the disabled people who attend the nightclub and their families/carers. We also provide volunteering opportunities for 8 people who support the running of the nightclub, some of whom have disabilities and neurodiversity. The stakeholders are regularly consulted in regard to how the fundraised money is spent and the monthly themes for the nightclub. When the current venue was deemed unsuitable by the stakeholders, a new venue was sought in February 2025 in collaboration with Freedom Leisure at the Stour Centre. The stakeholders visited the venue before the move was decided and the attendees cast the deciding vote for the venue move. From Feb 2025, Freedom Leisure at the Stour Centre became Unite Ashford CIC new venue and became stakeholders in the CIC. They are regularly consulted on decisions that affect the nightclub. Mencap regularly support the nightclub and attend to support the event and network with the beneficiaries.
