Principal Activities of the Company The Aspiring Medic's Support (TAMS) C.I.C. Company Number: 11681631 Reporting Period: 1 December 2024 – 30 November 2025 The Aspiring Medic's Support (TAMS) is a Community Interest Company established to advance education and widen participation in medicine for aspiring and current medical students from socioeconomically disadvantaged and widening participation (WP) backgrounds across the United Kingdom. Our mission is to ensure that students from widening participation backgrounds have equitable opportunities, choices, and outcomes throughout their journey into and through medical education. During the reporting period, the Company continued to deliver activities that furthered this mission through educational programmes, national events, digital resources, and stakeholder engagement. TAMS Scholars Programme The Company continued to deliver the TAMS Scholars Programme, providing structured personal and professional development opportunities for aspiring and current medical students from widening participation backgrounds. Participants benefited from mentoring, educational workshops, careers advice, and networking opportunities designed to improve access to medical careers and support progression through medical school. ThriveInMed Medical Students Conference During the year, the Company successfully delivered the ThriveInMed Medical Students Conference 2025 at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The conference brought together medical students from across the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on supporting students from widening participation and working-class backgrounds. The event provided keynote lectures, panel discussions, workshops, networking opportunities, and career development sessions centred around the theme "More Than a Medic: Careers, Identity and Impact." The conference was delivered in collaboration with a number of respected organisations and professionals, helping students explore sustainable careers in medicine while building professional networks and confidence. Digital Engagement Throughout the reporting period, the Company continued to expand its digital presence through the ThriveInMed community, sharing educational resources, careers guidance, and widening participation content with students across the UK. These online activities enabled the Company to extend its reach beyond geographical boundaries and provide accessible support to a wider audience. Stakeholder Engagement The Company continued to work collaboratively with universities, healthcare professionals, charities, and national organisations committed to widening participation in medicine. Partnerships with organisations including the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the General Medical Council, the Medical Defence Union, Healthcare Leadership Academy, More Than Medics, and other widening participation organisations strengthened the quality and reach of the Company's activities. Public Benefit All activities undertaken during the reporting period were delivered in furtherance of the Company's community interest objectives. Through educational programmes, conferences, mentoring, freely accessible digital resources, and strategic partnerships, TAMS continued to work towards reducing barriers to medical education and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds to realise their potential. The Directors believe that the Company's activities have continued to deliver a meaningful public benefit by improving access to educational opportunities, supporting career development, and promoting greater equity within medical education.
Consultation with Stakeholders The Company actively consults with its stakeholders to ensure its activities continue to meet the needs of aspiring and current medical students from widening participation backgrounds. Throughout the reporting period, feedback was gathered from participants attending the TAMS Scholars Programme, ThriveInMed community members, conference delegates, volunteers, mentors, and partner organisations through surveys, informal discussions, and ongoing engagement. Insights from students directly informed the development of the Thrive Guide, which was created in response to commonly identified challenges relating to the hidden curriculum of medicine, research opportunities, career planning, finances, and wellbeing. Feedback from stakeholders also shaped the content of the ThriveInMed Medical Students Conference 2026. Students expressed a desire for greater exposure to sustainable and varied careers in medicine, leading to the conference theme "More Than a Medic: Careers, Identity and Impact." The programme was designed to include keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and panel discussions focused on career sustainability, portfolio careers, leadership, and professional identity. The Company also maintained regular dialogue with partner organisations, including the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the General Medical Council, More Than Medics, the Medical Defence Union, Healthcare Leadership Academy, and other widening participation organisations. Their advice and collaboration helped strengthen the quality, relevance, and reach of the Company's activities. The Directors remain committed to ensuring that the views of beneficiaries and stakeholders continue to shape the future direction of the Company and inform its public benefit activities.
